Extreme wets were in action in Suzuka on Friday

The Japanese GP weekend kicked off with wet free practice this morning. Heikki Kovalainen snatched the top spot in the last moment from the second fastest Kazuki Nakajima. Adrian Sutil finished the session 3rd, Giancarlo Fisichella 4th. There was a driver change in Toyota – Kamui Kobayashi replaced ill Timo Glock. Glock is however expected to race.

2009 Italian GP – Saturday practice – Sutil again

Adrian Sutil fastest again

Adrian Sutil fastest again

Adrian Sutil was fastest also in the final practice for the 2009 Italian GP, 0.068 ahead of Jenson Button and 0.154s ahead of Nick Heidfeld. Brawn GP and Force India look good for Italian GP – Barrichello finished the Saturday practice in 4th and Vitantonio Liuzzi 7th. McLarens will probably also fancy their chances this weekend. It does not look too good for Red Bull, both Vettel and Webber were about 2s off the pace this morning. It is interesting that the top 4 cars in this session have no KERS …

Giancarlo Fisichella lost some valuable track time after crashing into the barriers on the exit from Parabolica. His session lasted only about 30 minutes.

McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen were fastest in the first practice for the 2009 Italian GP at Monza. Adrian Sutil was 3rd fastest keeping the Force India yet again at the front end of the pack. It was not too bad Ferrari debut for Giancarlo Fisichella. After lacking some pace early on in the session he ended up with 8th fastest time with more less identical time as Kimi Raikkonen.

Spa Francorchamps

Spa Francorchamps

The final practice session did not make us any smarter. Heidfeld, Trulli, Sutil, Grosjean, Glock, Kubica – these are the top 6 drivers in FP3. Rosberg seems to have finally found some pace in his Williams and finished in 7th. The reliability worries continue for Red Bull – this time it was Mark Webber’s turn to experience engine problems … Luca Badoer was only 6 tenths slower than Kimi Raikkonen.

The sky was getting darker and darker towards the end of FP3, the qualifying may be interesting …

Eau Rouge

Eau Rouge

Jarno Trulli finished the first practice session on the top of time sheets ahead of Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. Toro Rosso drivers took 4th and 5th places. The times however do not tell us much as the session was affected by rain and changing track conditions. The winner probably is the “running-out-of-engines” Sebastian Vettel who could almost sit out the whole session and save some engine mileage without really loosing much valuable track time. There were also some silly rumours flying around the airwaves during the session, the silliest of all suggesting Alonso’s return to McLaren … Silly season in full swing …

Adrian Sutil - The fastest driver in FP3

Adrian Sutil was the fastest driver in the final practice session for the European Grand Prix. His team mate Giancarlo Fisichella ended up in 6th place. It does look like Force India have brought a strong package to Valencia …

Williams, McLaren, BMW Sauber, Brawn, Renault all look quick as well, it promises to be interesting qualifying later today … Red Bull seems to be struggling a bit. Luca Badoer has a mountain to climb …

2009 Hungarian GP – Saturday practice

Lewis Hamilton finished the final practice session on top ahead of Nick Heidfeld and Nico Rosberg. McLaren cars were fastest in all three practice sessions this weekend. P9 and P10 for Red Bulls and P13 and P17 for Brawns makes it quite tricky to predict the qualifying …

2009 Hungarian GP – Friday Practice

The Hungarian GP weekend kicked off with Friday practice. Busiest driver in the morning session was (as expected) the rookie Jaime Alguersuari with 42 laps to his name. He did reasonably well on his first proper F1 outing, setting time only 2 tenths slower than his team mate Sebastien Buemi. The fastest lap of the sesson belongs to Heikki Kovalainen. Nico Rosberg was second fastest and Lewis Hamilton third.

Sebastien Vettel complained about tyres heating up too much, Brawn GP spent the session testing new aero parts and running with race fuel loads.

2009 German GP – Saturday practice

Interesting last practice session it was with rather unusual order. Lewis Hamilton was fastest again, ahead of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Obviously some cars were focused more on the low fuel runs while some other went for race fuel simulation. Can’t wait for qualifying …

2009 German GP – Friday practice

German GP weekend started today with free practice. Mark Webber was the fastest driver in the first session, about 4 tenths ahead of Jenson Button. Felipe Massa clocked the thirds best time in his Ferrari featuring very Red Bull like nose.

Lewis Hamilton was the fastest driver in the afternoon practice followed by Vettel, Button and Webber. Force India was again out in force – this time Adrian Sutil in 6th.

A thing to note is the Williams change of strategy – no more Friday low fuel runs.

2009 Turkish GP – Saturday practice – Massa fastest

The final practice for the Turkish GP is over. Felipe Massa was the fastest man on the track, the only one in 1:27s. Toyota cars seem to be doing much better than 2 weeks ago in Monaco – Trulli was second, just ahead of his team mate Timo Glock. Robert Kubica’s 5th best time may be a sign that the new aero package (and diffuser) is working for BMW Sauber. Brawn and Williams look competitive too however pace of McLarens does not seem to be as competitive as Friday times might have suggested. But … this was still only practice, qualifying starts in less than 2 hours …
