From Bahrain to Abu Dhabi – The 2010 Vettel Helmets Collection

F1 drivers do come up with special helmet designs from time to time, quite often for Monaco GP (see 2008 and 2010), for home GPs (see Piquet’s and Barrichello’s specials for 2008 Brazilian GP) or to pay a tribute to another driver (see David Coulthard for Colin McRae for example). Sebastian Vettel however seems to be coming up with new helmet design for almost every race … Here is the collection of Vettel’s lid designs in 2010 (now updated with Vettel’s helmets used during Korean, Brazilian and Abu Dhabi GPs):

Heidfeld and Klien return to F1 racing this weekend

Nick Heidfeld

Nick Heidfeld will race for his old team for the rest of the season

There will be two “new” faces on the grid this weekend in Singapore. Sauber announced after Italian GP that Nick Heidfeld will replace Pedro de la Rosa for the rest of the season. (Pedro de la Rosa will take on the Pirelli testing job previously held by Heidfeld and Grosjean).

Short while ago the HRT team announced that Christian Klien will replace Sakon Yamamoto for the Singapore GP. The official reason is food poisoning. The team hopes that Yamamoto will be OK to race in Japan. Here is the press release from HRT:

2010 Monaco GP Helmet Specials

Drivers like to paint their helmets differently for Monaco GPs and this year is no exemption. Vitantonio Liuzzi and Sebastian Vettel have completely new designs for the Monaco GP this year, Jarno Trulli got rid of the shiny silver and went retro – back to colours he used earlier in his career. Lewis Hamilton’s lid has a roulette wheel added. Here is mini gallery featuring the 2010 Monaco GP helmet specials.

Red went missing from Rubens Barrichello’s helmet

Helmet designs should help us to identify the drivers on the track. Sometimes however the drivers depart from their traditional designs and confuse us all. In the last two races (Australia and Malaysia) Rubens Barrichello dropped his traditional red (orange) and white design – design he used throughout his entire F1 career. In Melbourne and Sepang the red (orange) went missing… Here is the gallery featuring Rubens Barrichello and his blue-white helmet:

2010 F1 Drivers Helmets

New season, new drivers helmet designs. Here is the collection of 2010 F1 drivers helmets (click on the thumbnails to enlarge the images). Most of the returning drivers seem to have selected to stay with their traditional designs (or switch back back to them like Jenson Button). The most obvious changes are related to team changes or new sponsors on board. Drivers with most radically changed helmet designs are Robert Kubica (switch from red to yellow) and Timo Glock (from red to mostly gold). Helmets of all 2010 F1 rookie drivers – Bruno Senna, Karun Chandhok, Lucas di Grassi, Vitaly Petrov, Nico Hulkenberg – are included in the gallery. Fernando Alonso new helmet in Ferrari colours

Time to start catching up with things after my 2 weeks break. It is also time to start getting used to new looks of F1 drivers in their new team colours. Here is Fernando Alonso sporting Ferrari red and his new helmet. Well, the helmet design is similar to his 2009 one with few Ferrari tweaks. The most obvious change is the barcode that represents the only remaining tobacco money in F1 …

2010 F1 drivers – Bruno Senna confirmed by Campos META

Bruno Senna will make the step up to F1 next season with Campos META

Bruno Senna will make the step up to F1 next season with Campos META

Campos META and Bruno Senna ended the speculations yesterday. Both parties confirmed the deal that will see the Brazilian driver racing for the new Spanish F1 team in F1 next season.

“For Campos Meta 1, it is an extraordinary honour to be returning the name Senna to Formula 1. The deal with Senna confirms and re-enforces our prime objective of being not only the first Spanish Formula 1 team, but rather the first Iberian-American F1 team. The 2014 World Cup, the 2016 Olympics, and three drivers in F1 – it’s clear that Brazil is coming up.” – Campos Meta CEO Enrique Rodriguez de Castro

2009 Italian GP – Fisichella’s and Liuzzi’s helmets

This weekend Giancarlo Fisichella is appearing for the first time in Ferrari colours, Vitantonio Liuzzi is back racing. Here are the pictures of the helmets these two Italian drivers are sporting this weekend at the Italian GP at Monza (click on the thumbnails to enlarge the images).

Both drivers chose the colours of the Italian flag. Liuzzi’s helmet (same as in 2007 click here) is painted in red on one side, green on the other :-) .

2009 F1 Drivers Helmets

With the teams revealing their 2009 Formula One cars we also have chance to see some of the 2009 F1 drivers helmets. Here they come, including the new yellow helmet of Jenson Button . I will be adding more (or better) pictures as they become available.

Brazilian F1 GP – Helmet Special – Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel is another driver who decided to race with a bit different helmet this weekend. Piquet celebrates his home race, Barrichello his racing hero, Vettel his last race for his current team Scuderia Toro Rosso. His Brazilian GP helmet sports the farewell message “Grazie mille Toro Rosso!” accompanied with Italian tricolore and photos of his one and half year Toro Rosso career. Here are few images:

2008 Brazilian F1 GP – Helmet specials for home drivers

Rubens Barrichello, 2008 Brazilian GP

Rubens Barrichello, 2008 Brazilian GP

David Coulthard came to Brazil with differently looking car, the home drivers Nelson Piquet and Rubens Barrichello are sporting different look helmets.

Nelson Piquet’s 2008 Brazilian GP helmet special includes the Brazilian national flag, design that obviously celebrates first home Formula 1 race for Piquet.

Rubens Barrichello’s 2008 Brazilian GP helmet special design honours a man who gave him his first ever racing helmet – Barrichellos family friend Ingo Hoffman. Hoffman is a Brazilian Stock Car racing legend and also raced for Fittipaldi F1 team back in 1976 and 1977.

Both Piquet and Barrichello probably hope that unlike in Coulthard’s case their special Brazilian GP designs will not also mark the final Formula 1 races of their careers …

2008 Japanese F1 GP – Jarno Trulli Fujiyama helmet special

Last year Jarno Trulli painted his helmet with sakura flowers for the Japanese Grand Prix. This year the Toyota driver went for another Japanese trade mark – Fuji Mountain. Here is the helmet he will be sporting on his team’s home circuit:
