Thursday Thoughts – Three worst F1 circuits

TrackFlags

And the winner (looser?) is ...

Nice topic thrown into the air by the nice Sidepodcast people for the first off-season Thursday – Which are your worst three circuits, and what would you do to fix them?

It is not easy to pick only three worst circuits as there are quite a few not so good ones that come to mind – Bahrain, Shanghai, Barcelona, Valencia, Monaco, Hungary, Singapore, Abu Dhabi. Plus add Turkey that has a good track but no one in Turkey cares …

Anyway, here are my top three worst tracks:

The highest score of round 9 belongs to blazena – respectable 22 points !

2010 European GP – Race Result – Vettel wins

Sebastian Vettel - 2010 European GP winner

Sebastian Vettel - 2010 European GP winner

Sebastian Vettel won the 2010 European GP ahead of McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. This Valencia race was more exciting the previous two. However the incompetence of the race stewards and race control following the safety car deployment (after the spectacular and scary Mark Webber crash) did leave a blemish on the race result. How can a driver who overtakes a safety car end up actually benefiting from breaching the rules ? Why all the drivers investigated for their behavior behind the safety car could not be penalized during the race ? (And by the way, where did the five seconds penalty come from ?)

2010 European GP Result:

1. Vettel – Red Bull
2. Hamilton – McLaren
3. Button – McLaren
4. Barrichello – Williams
5. Kubica – Renault
6. Sutil – Force India
7. Kobayashi – Sauber
8. Alonso – Ferrari
9. Buemi – Toro Rosso

Photo gallery – Barrichello’s first win since 2004

The 2009 European GP win is Barrichello’s 10th career win, his first since the inaugural Chinese GP race back in 2004. The last time Barrichello was not on pole and won the race was at 2002 US GP.

This win is also the 100th F1 race win for a Brazilian driver, the first since Massa’s win at Interlagos last year. Well and yes, this is Barrichello’s first win in a car other than Ferrari.

Here is a photo gallery featuring images from Barrichello’s day in Valencia:

2009 European GP – Post qualifying weights

Lewis Hamilton - On pole but with the lightest fuel load

Lewis Hamilton - On pole but with the lightest fuel load

The post qualifying weights for the 2009 European GP have been made public. Lewis Hamilton is the lightest one on the grid, probably pitting a lap earlier than Heikki Kovalainen. Sebastian Vettel will be making his stop at about the same time as the McLaren drivers. Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button have fuel for about 3 laps more than the three lightest cars. Raikkonen will start with the same fuel load as Button, on the dirtier side of the track but with the magic KERS button … Rosberg, Webber and Alonso will need to pit a lap or two later than the Brawn cars and Kimi’s Ferrari. The honour to be the heaviest car on the grid goes to Jarno Trulli with mighty 707.3 kg, five kg more than another super heavy car – Kazuki Nakajima’s Williams (702 kg) …
