We had a rather rare opportunity to see team mates battle it out last weekend in Turkey – Vettel attacking Webber, Button pulling a move on Hamilton. I believe that for majority of the viewers these overtaking attempts were not exactly expected. We became used to the fact that once the race settles the team mates keep the status-quo. Alonso following slower Massa in Australia earlier this season is one example.
2010 Turkish GP Podium
Lewis Hamilton won his first race of 2010 season ahead of his team mate Jenson Button. Mark Webber finished 3rd after he dropped from the lead following the crash with Sebastian Vettel. (At least this time Webber finished the race, unlike the Fuji race few years back). Mercedes drivers Schumacher and Rosbrg took P4 and P5, Kubica P6, Alonso and Massa P 7 and P8 for Ferrari. Adrian Sutil scored yet more points for Force India while Kamui Kobayashi collected the maiden point for Sauber this year. Fastest lap went to Vitaly Petrov.
Third pole in a row for Mark Webber
Red Bull keeps the monopoly on pole positions this year. Mark Webber will start from pole position for the third time in a row. Lewis Hamilton managed to split the Red Bulls and will line up next to Webber on the front row. Vettel qualified 3rd, ahead of Button. Michael Schumacher will start from P5 after spinning out at Turn 8 on his final run.

Michael Schumacher - 2010 Monaco GP
Mercedes GP has issued statement regarding their appeal against the decision of Monaco stewards. That means that the results will stay as they are, with Fernando Alonso in 6th place and Michael Schumacher 12th, without points. Here is the full text of the statement from the team:
Mark Webber - 2010 Monaco GP Winner
Mark Webber won the 2010 Monaco GP. He also took the world championship lead. Sebastian Vettel completed 1-2 finish for Red Bull and lined up second in the championship with the same points total as Webber. Robert Kubica finished 3rd. The fourth place belongs to Felipe Massa, the fifth to Lewis Hamilton. Fernando Alonso who started from the pitlane climbed up to sixth place but lost it in the final corner to Michael Schumacher, just after the final restart of the race. The stewards decided that pass was illegal and added 20 seconds to Schumacher’s time. As a result Nico Rosberg finished 7th ahead of Force India cars of Sutil and Liuzzi. The only other cars that finished the race were two Toro Rossos with Buemi collecting his first point of the season.
There were several safety car deployments following crashes by Hulkenberg, Barrichello and the big one 3 laps from the end between Chandhok and Trulli. One more safety car was caused by loose drain cover.
Felipe Massa - The second fastest driver in Saturday practice
Robert Kubica was the fastest driver in the final practice session for 2010 Monaco GP ahead of Massa, Webber and Hamilton. Four different cars among top four. We had a glimpse of what the qualifying may be like with traffic affecting the lap times quite a lot in the closing stages of the session.
Fernando Alonso, the fastest driver on Thursday, faces race against time to get his car ready for the race after hitting the wall early on during the practice causing heavy damage to his car. UPDATE – Fernando Alonso will not take part in the qualifying after damaging the chassis in the FP3 accident. He will use new chassis in the race and therefore will have to start from the pitlane.

McLaren drivers Hamilton and Button finished third and fourth just ahead of Michael Schumacher. Earlier in the session Petrov and Kobayashi crashed out after loosing grip on wet kerbs causing red flag. At the back of the field Lotus seems to have pulled away from Virgin by about one second judging from the practice times. During the practice it was announced that both Virgin drivers will get 5 place grid penalties after their team failed to notify the FIA about its intended gear ratios.
Empty F1 grandstands in Shanghai ...
Red Bull finally showed their pace in China. Mark Webber was the fastest driver on Saturday morning in Shanghai, Sebastian Vettel finished the final practice session in 3rd place. P2 and P4 went to McLaren drivers. Ferrari also unleashed their cars with Feranando Alonso finishing ahead of both Mercedes drivers. Felipe Massa would probably end the session with faster time if not for Karun Chandhok getting in his way on the last flying lap. Earlier the session was red flagged following Vitaly Petrov’s crash into to tyre barriers. He walked away OK but the car will need some serious repair job before qualifying …
