2009 End Of The Year F1 Quiz

quiz header image

It has been a while since the last one but the quiz is back with the end of season edition. The plan was for 40 questions but at the end 36 is the number (for no particular reasson). All questions have something to do with 2009 F1 season although some also go a bit back to F1 history. You may already know the drill – complete all the questions, afterwards all the answers will be revealed. As usual please no googling for answers :-) .

Macau GP video highlights, sort of

I found this video published about a week ago by a local news site. You will not learn much from it but it does feature brief interviews with Red Bull boys Daniel Ricciardo, Brendon Hartley and Manor boss John Booth and it does bring some of that unique relaxed Macau GP atmosphere. So if you have about 3 minutes to spare, click on the play button and enjoy:

BMW sells the team back to Peter Sauber

So, no Quadbak sale. BMW has at the end agreed to sell their F1 team back to Peter Sauber. There is one condition attached though – the team needs to have a place on 2010 grid. And that is one thing they don’t have at the moment thanks to the failure of BMW to sign the Concorde Agreement. There is a possible vacancy following Toyota’s withdrawal from the sport. But that vacancy does not have to go to Sauber … Toyota still owns that 13th entry and there are some reports that Toyota may be selling it to another party – that party being Stefan Grand Prix, the Serbian entity that took FIA to European Commission for the way the original team selection process was handled … Here are the links to Joe Saward’s blog entry and to Autosport feature (subscription required).

The original sale to Quadbak was announced just after FIA granted the entry vacated by BMW to Lotus. Will the history repeat itself ? Has the BMW / Sauber solution arrived too late yet again ?

2009 Macau GP – Motorbikes, F3, Formula BMW, WTCC, GT Cup photos

I have finally managed to sort out all the photos taken in Macau last weekend. Here is the second set featuring images from the track and from the paddock and garages. This is a mix of pictures from Formula 3, Formula BMW, motorbike race, GT Cup and WTCC. And yes, the photos of former Minardi F1 driver and current Star Sports F1 commentator Alex Yoong and his strange Bufori car are also in the mix :-) . Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the images.

2009 Macau GP – Crash photos from the crash fest

The 2009 Macau GP provided some great racing action in all the events. It also produced lots of minor, major and spectacular crashes. Safety car was called to action in all Sunday races, two of those (the 2nd WTCC race and the Formula 3 race) were even red flagged. There were no serious injuries but lots of debris and some seriously damaged cars. Here are photos of some of the Macau crash fest action from the Lisboa bend. There were more seriously looking crashes and pile ups but those occurred at higher speed corners, away from the lense of my camera. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the images:

2009 Macau GP – Video – Massive Lambo crash in GT Cup

Bits and pieces of the Lambo

Bits and pieces of the Lambo

The GT Cup race (part of 2009 Macau GP program) today produced a massive crash of Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 driven by Luis Artiles. The front and rear of the car was totally ripped off, debris all over the track… The driver walked away but it will take some serious repair job before that Lambo can race again … Here is a short video featuring that crash.

The prize for the 2009 Prediction Game has been delivered

The 2009 Prediction Game ended about 2 weeks ago. The prize this year went to the 2nd on the podium, psychy as I somehow could not imagine presenting the prize to myself :-) . I can’t understand why the wine shop delivered different champagne than what they were supposed to but at the end it is all bubbles and I hope psychy will enjoy it ! Here are few photos psychy sent back after receiving the prize.

2009 Prediction Game – Final Results

The final race of 2009 F1 season is over and that means also the end of the 2009 Prediction Game. The final round was not very high scoring one. The main reason seems to be the fact that lots of usual suspects failed to make it to top 8 in Abu Dhabi. With McLaren, Ferrari, Williams, Renault all out of the points lots of points correctly guessed teams in top 8 were lost. Those who had BMW, Toyota and Toro Rosso drivers among their top 8 scored big …

2009 F1 drivers – What a difference 8 months made

There were no drivers changes at all during 2008 Formula One season. Of course if we do not count Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson, two drivers left without seats after Super Aguri pulled out of the sport.

It was a different story this year. Injuries, performances and perhaps also personal disagreements resulted in rather different line up during the photo ops in Melbourne in late March and Abu Dhabi right at the beginning of November:

2009 Formula One Drivers - March

2009 Formula One Drivers - March

Bourdais, Buemi, Fisichella, Sutil, Webber Vettel, Nakajima, Rosberg, Barrichello, Button, Glock, Trulli, Heidfeld, Kubica, Raikkonen, Massa, Hamilton, Kovalainen, Alonso, Piquet

How many of them will we see back next year ?

2009 Abu Dhabi GP – Race result – Win for Vettel

Vettel, Webber and 4th 1-2 Red Bull finish of the season

Fourth 1-2 finish of the season for Red Bull courtesy of Vettel and Webber

Sebastian Vettel won the rather dull inaugural Abu Dhabi GP and claimed second place in the drivers championship. One of few exciting parts of this GP was the final laps fight between Webber and Button for 2nd place. Webber prevailed and helped to secured fourth 1-2 finish of the season for Red Bull Racing. Rubens Barrichello finished 4th, Nick Heidfeld 5th in BMW Sauber’s final F1 race. Kamui Kobayashi scored 3 points for 6th place in only his second F1 race. The final 2 point scoring positions belong to Jarno Trulli and Sebastien Buemi.

2009 Abu Dhabi GP – Post qualifying weights

Top three in Abu Dhabi qualifying

Top three in Abu Dhabi qualifying

The FIA has released the Abu Dhabi GP post qualifying weights. Lewis Hamilton is lighter than the 2 Red Bull cars behind him on the grid but will probably stop on the same lap as Mark Webber and perhaps only a lap earlier than Vettel. The lightest car on the grid is Robert Kubica. The heaviest among the top ten is Nico Rosberg but he still only has about 2 laps worth of fuel more than Hamilton.

There are some very heavy cars at the back of the grid, especially Kazuki Nakajima and both Renaults.
