F1 Test – Barcelona Day 1 – Michael Schumacher On Top

None of the 2007 top 4 drivers was in action (one of them does not even have a team as we speak) but still, to jump in a car after year away and top the time sheets is impressive. Love him or hate him, Schumi still has it. Some of the current drivers should hope he does not start enjoying the track action again…
Schumi
Coulthard gave him thumbs up:

“I think there is a guy called Michael. It looks as though he’s got a talent. He will make his way to F1.”

But some were not impressed even before the test:

Force India F1 Reveals Team Logo

Force India Logo

This is the full version of the logo. It definitelly looks better than the economy size one they use on the nose of the car…

Small Force India Logo

… and on the shirt of the team owner Vijay Mallya

Mini Force India Logo

The burgundy letter I in the logo may suggest that the the burgundy on their interim livery the team runs now in Barcelona testing may stay. Let’s hope the car will not stay that way, it looks like burgundy version of Toyota…

2007 F1 Season Review – Part 4 – Toyota, Toro Rosso

Toyota
Ralf Schumacher Jarno Trulli
The fact that these 2 teams are neighbors in the constructors table with only 5 points separating them is not exactly a sign of money well spent in Toyota… Toyota scored points in only 7 out of 17 races in 2007 and their greatest point tally from a race was 3. They had 5 races pointless streak from Turkey to China.

Their start to the season was not that bad. Both their cars qualified in top 10 and scored their first point right away with Ralf at 8th, just ahead of Trulli. Jarno Trulli went 1 place better in the next 2 races. After three races Toyota were 5th in the constructors table with 5 points, but the performance slump of Ralf Schumacher was well under way already. It became even more apparent in Spain where Trulli qualified at 6th while Ralf Schumacher at 17. Both cars retired from the race.

Renault Spy Saga – In View Of Recent News

Flavio BriatoreAfter reading several of the lates news releases on this Renault case, visiting several forums to see what other make of it, in the process making fool of myself on one of them with my memory black out on the Stepneygate, I am trying to put some of the recent developments in a context.

The first information came out on September 11, 2007, just days  before the WMSC hearing and McLaren verdict FIA confirmed to Autosport:

“We have noted the speculation and we can confirm that McLaren lawyers have recently brought to our attention certain matters regarding Renault F1. But we can also confirm that the team (Renault) does not form any part of our investigations into McLaren’s alleged breach of Article 151C of the International Sporting Code. The FIA has reminded McLaren that the World Council hearing in Paris on Thursday will focus solely on the new evidence in that investigation. To the extent required, any other matters will be dealt with as part of an entirely separate process. Renault F1 are aware of this and are happy to cooperate fully.”

Flavio Briatore then responed with his now famous quote:

“We told the FIA what we had, so there’s no problem. I don’t know what Dennis refers to, he’s throwing stones a bit everywhere. We are calm, no problem at all.”

Then came weeks of silence and all of a sudden 2 days ago news broke out that Renault were called to appear before WMSC to answer the allegations.

Renault as expected came up with a statement to the media:

2007 F1 Season Review – Part 3 – Williams, Red Bull

Williams
Rosberg Wurz Nakajima

After their disastrous 2006 season many people (me included) said, that this year will be the make or break one for the Williams team. The danger of taking the Jordan route after Honda deserted them was definitelly real. They however managed to turn the things around. Toyota power replacing the Cosworth engine was an important step. Not that Cosworth V8 was a bad engine, but financial side of the deal with Toyota was definitelly much sweeter for Williams than buying engines off Cosworth… On top of that the team secured the title sponsor AT&T, without even giving them the most lucrative place on the car. That went to another major new sponsor – Lenovo. Mark Webber left and Alex Wurz was promoted from testing duties to a race seat alongside Nico Rosberg. Their winter testing form was promising, things did not look too bad for Williams ahead of 2007 season.

So Who Actually Is The 2007 F1 Champion ?

F1 Racin Nov 2007So who actually is the 2007 F1 champion ? F1 Racing took some time to publish their latest issue, likely to be able to include the Brazilian GP and the outcome of the race for the drivers title. And look what they came up with… Just looking at the cover without reading what is printed on it one might thing the title decision has been reversed already.

Am I the only one who finds the cover of this issue weird ? I understand F1 Racing is a British magazine, but come on, does not a World Champion deserve a decent picture on the cover, especially in a magazine that is published in over 30 countries and claims to be The World’s Best Selling Grand Prix Magazine ?
