2010 Turkish GP – Friday Practice – McLaren Day

Heikki Kovalainen Lotus Turkey Friday

Heikki Kovalainen moved Lotus closer to the midfield

Turkish GP weekend has started with the Friday practice. Lewis Hamilton was the quickest in the morning practice about a second ahead of his team mate Jenson Button. Sakon Yamamoto who replaced Bruno Senna in HRT for FP1 was the slowest one. Lucas do Grassi using the new Virgin chassis for the first time finished the session half a second ahead of Timo Glock. Ferrari and Red Bull clearly focused on things other than fast laps.

The only accident in FP1 came 2 minutes before the end of the session when Adrian Sutil crashed out at Turn 8 causing yellow flags.

Jenson Button kept McLaren on the top of time sheets also in the afternoon ahead of two Red Bull drivers. Red Bulls might be quick but Vettel’s car experienced water pressure problems and Webber’s session ended a bit earlier than pllanned following what looked like an engine failure. Further down the table Heikki Kovalainen finished 19th, 3.3 secs off Button’s time but only 7 tenths behind Alguersuari’s Toro Rosso. Lotus seems to be picking some pace … HRTs were matching the pace of Virgins.

If HRT is already matching Virgin Racing, we can expect much more from them till the end of the year, good news for our little spanish team.
