2010 F1 Drivers – Lucas di Grassi confirmed by Virgin Racing

Virgin Racing confirmed today at their team launch in London that Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi will join Timo Glock as 2010 Virgin Racing race driver.

Lucas di Grassi has spent the previous 4 seasons in GP2. He finished 3rd in 2009 and 2008 Championships, 2nd in 2007 and 17th in his debut season in 2007. Back in 2005 he won the Macau GP in the Manor Motorsports colours.

His previous F1 experience consists of test and reserve drivers roles with BMW Sauber and Renault as well as winter tests with Honda after the end of 2008 F1 season (just before Honda pulled out of F1).

Portuguese driver Alvaro Parente and Brazilian Luiz Razia will be Virgin Racing test drivers in 2010.

Virgin Racing first F1 car – VR-01 – is scheduled to hit the track in February 2010. Teams technical director Nick Wirth has confirmed that car will not be tested in the wind tunnel prior to its first test on track. Wirth is confident that Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technology is now advanced enough for car designs to need not no wind tunnel tests.
