Romain Grosjean will make his F1 debut in Valencia

Renault today officially ended the period of guessing and speculations. As expected Romain Grosjean has been officially confirmed as Renault F1 driver replacing Nelson Piquet jr.

This season Romain has been the team’s third driver and has attended all races. In 2007 he was Formula 3 Euro Series champion and in 2008 he won the GP2 Asia Series. This season, Romain has been competing in the GP2 Series with Barwa Addax and has won 2 races.

“We are happy to give Romain the chance to start racing with the team. He is an impressive young talent and we expect him to show his skills driving alongside Fernando as we take an aggressive approach to the second half of the season. We would also like to thank Nelson for his contribution during the time he has been with us and wish him all the best for the future.” – Flavio Briatore

“I am very proud that the Renault F1 Team has given me the chance to become a race driver. I’m looking forward to driving the R29 and helping the team get the best results possible. It’s also an honour to be Fernando’s teammate and to make my Formula One debut alongside a double world champion is especially motivating.” – Romain Grosjean

Funny enough, the official Renault line is that Nelson’s departure follows a mutual agreement that that course of action is in the best interests of both parties…

The best to his wrecked reputation, the best is to switch to another thing while his name still keeps making some news, otherwise… Maybe his misfortune in F1 won’t be the best curriculum for a new job, anyway he did much for the team when the lack of performance of both, driver and the provided car and GP strategies were more than wrong planned. Let’s wish Nelsinho another lucky period in another motorsports challenge.

well, he may wait and see what happens in F1 before next season. there will be some drivers reshuffle, there are new teams coming in, there is a team for sale … I don’t think he will commit to anything outside F1 while there is still chance that some opportunity may appear in F1
