2009 Belgian GP – Friday practice

Eau Rouge

Eau Rouge

Jarno Trulli finished the first practice session on the top of time sheets ahead of Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. Toro Rosso drivers took 4th and 5th places. The times however do not tell us much as the session was affected by rain and changing track conditions. The winner probably is the “running-out-of-engines” Sebastian Vettel who could almost sit out the whole session and save some engine mileage without really loosing much valuable track time. There were also some silly rumours flying around the airwaves during the session, the silliest of all suggesting Alonso’s return to McLaren … Silly season in full swing …

Friday practice 1 times:

1. J. Trulli – Toyota – 1:49.675
2. J. Button – Brawn GP – 1:50.283
3. F. Alonso – Renault – 1:50.368
4. S. Buemi – Toro Rosso – 1:51.045
5. J. Alguersuari – Toro Rosso – 1:51.529

7. K. Räikkönen – Ferrari – 1:52.930
8. H. Kovalainen – McLaren – 1:53.383
9. R. Kubica – BMW Sauber – 1:53.650
10. L. Badoer – Ferrari – 1:55.068
11. G. Fisichella – Force India – 2:03.972
12. N. Rosberg – Williams – 2:04.505

18. T. Glock – Toyota – 2:06.331
19. S. Vettel – Red Bull – no time
20. L. Hamilton – McLaren – no time

There was no rain in the afternoon, the track was dry, the times much faster. The top 19 cars are separated by about a second, that is impressive for 7 km long track. There is however almost another second separating 19th Rosberg from 20th Badoer … The fastest time in the afternoon session belongs to Lewis Hamilton ahead of Timo Glock, Kimi Raikkonen and Mark Webber. Button and Barrichello were about a second behind.
