Hey,
didn't Vatanen actually drive for Todt as manager of the Peugeot Talbot Sport in the awesome 205 T16 in the 84 - 85 WRC, and later in the rally raids (Dakar etc)?
Way to get one over your old boss. Didn't realise there was that much animosity there.

I think I will leave my evaluation of Mosley's achievements and failures until he is actually out of the office. But the biggest irony of his era is that it was under his watch when F1 spending spiralled out of control yet he wants to leave as the man who cut the budgets ... So when the teams are talking about bringing the spending down to early 90s level, they are talking about pre-Mosley era ...

He has no ties to F1 or any other sporting category that the FIA governs.

well he has some ties to rally :-) it will not be easy for Vatanen though. Mosley may be on his way out (hopefuly) but he still has lots of power to pull the strings. it may not be easy to beat a candidate with Mosley's backing.

let's hope that there will be big difference between being able to get the vote of confidence following the Mosleygate and getting his candidate elected when the clubs actually have an alternative option

All i can say is that Vatanen is the only option. He has no ties to F1 or any other sporting category that the FIA governs.
On that point, saying that being the head if FIA isn't just about F1, i understand that but - F1 is the key to FIA control, they are the pinnacle and hence the focus of main attention, without F1, other categories will follow suit.
Todt, though clearly not in the favour of Ferrari in recent years, is historically involved in the sport and along with new tensions against Ferrari, isn't exactly a friend to anyone else on the grid. Vatanen, i believe will be hard but fair about regulations and about bringing a balance to the FIA.
Mosley rules with an iron fist, but Vatanen, (so far) sounds as though he will still govern but will listen much more to what individual racing organisations and teams want and work with them instead of against them as Mosley always does.
Vote for Vatanen!!!!

I do not believe entirely in a FIA president attached to the F1 again. May has been many years in his place, has done substantial changes which provided a good future to the F1, in my opinion some were simply needed and were the key for the next years, but many were controversial, the "political polite" style of the FIA, not based in equality and running in favor of "somebody", is worldwide known, and even more lately. Myself felt troubled, because agree and disagree at the same time with several situations given since I remember and have consciousness about what is FIA, what they do and what they mean. But it's already time to have fresh air, as I said, and Howett wants it too, independent and impartial, but someone who knows deep what are motorsports and does not just center into the business of them. Ari Vatanen is my candidate, despite I think the FIA is not a perfect organization, themeselves need a big tune up first for keep managing automobile related themes, they're not in contact with the customers. May the winds of change come right in this october? Hopefully.
