2009 German GP – Qualifying – First ever pole for Mark Webber

Maiden pole position for Mark Webber

Maiden pole position for Mark Webber

Mark Webber won the tactical Q3 gamble and will start the German GP from pole position, the first one in his F1 career. Rubens Barrichello in on P2, Jenson Button P3, Sebastian Vettel P4. The post qualifying weights (see here) will be published later on today. It would be interesting to know who gambled on wet race set up with rain expected tomorrow …

Q3:

1. M. Webber – 1:32.230
2. R. Barrichello – 1:32.357
3. J. Button – 1:32.473
4. S. Vettel – 1:32.480
5. L. Hamilton – 1:32.616
6. H. Kovalainen – 1:33.859
7. A. Sutil – 1:34.316
8. F. Massa – 1:34.574
9. K. Raikkonen – 1:34.710
10. N. Piquet – 1:34.803

Q2:
The tyre gamble that was the wet dry wet Q2 produced interesting results. Nelson Piquet outqualified Fernando Alonso for the first time, Adrian Sutil finished 3rd and made it to Q3 – first time for Force India. Rubens Barrichello was the fastest driver on track, or perhaps the one in the right time on track with the right tyres :-)

Eliminated in Q2:

11. N. Heidfeld – 1:42.310
12. F. Alonso – 1:42.318
13. K. Nakajima – 1:42.500
14. J. Trulli – 1:42.771
15. N. Rosberg – 1:42.859

Q1:

Mark Webber was fastest in the first session. Last few minutes of the session were affected by light rain that ruined the last attempts of Timo Glock and Robert Kubica to get out of the relegation zone. Here are the eliminated drivers:

16. R. Kubica – 1:32.190
17. S. Buemi – 1:32.251
18. G. Fisichella – 1:32.402
19. T. Glock – 1:32.423
20. S. Bourdais – 1:33.559
