Mosley offers deal, FOTA urges for compromise. Will the hot heads cool down before Friday ?

(Another) Friday deadline looms and both warring parties are sending out messages calling for agreement or compromise.

Max Mosley suggest the teams to accept the 1998 governance provisions by exchange of letters. FIA and FOTA can then negotiate a new 2009 Concorde Agreement under the protection of the 1998 arrangement. Mosley also wants the teams to accept the GBP40 million budget limit for now, with further discussions that could see it changed following in the next few weeks.


Mosley however rejected requests for the deadline to be delayed to July 1 (as the remaining applicants must be answered by Friday June 19th) and also demands by FOTA that standard engine supplier Cosworth be forced to detune its engines.

FOTA on the other hand says its teams could sign up to a sort of budget cap, or ‘resource restriction proposal’ under conditions that it is independently policed and universal for all. In return the current teams would assist new Formula One teams with engine supplies and technical assistance.

“We detect… that a solution might be possible based on the FOTA resource restriction proposal but with measures introduced.

We would propose in this respect that we nominate a top firm of independent accountants who will devise an audit methodology that will be implemented by all of the teams.

This methodology and the annual results would be disclosed to the FIA… we can see no reason why such a system based on objective verification of compliance would not be acceptable to all parties.”

There is quite a bit both sides have in common, but there are still enough differences each party can pick if it needs to blame the other for failure to reach an agreement… We will see soon what choice they make.

    Im beginning to think Max Moseley is trying to get the members of FOTA to leave and start their own series. His comments and hinting at resurecting historic F1 teams I think is more than a bluff.If FOTA teams leave there will be millions of dollars in TV revenue to spread around the teams left in F1 to make it marketable for sponsors and watchable for fans
