First March, then Brabham, now Lotus ?

This is getting ridiculous. First March Engineering (co-founded by Max Mosley 40 years ago) announced it has lodged the entry to 2010 F1 championship. Then Franz Hilmer, who bought the assets of Super Aguri team last year, filed his entry as Brabham Grand Prix, a news that came as a surprise to the Brabham family. And now Litespeed came out saying that they are using Lotus name for their potential 2010 F1 entry.

Some people behind some of these projects may have genuine Formula One plans. And yes, it would be nice to have these historic names back in Formula One. But, unfortunately, considering the circumstances, all this does not seem to be about bringing the old and long gone outfits back to F1. This looks to be more about piling up the pressure on the FOTA teams.

The message seems to be obvious – if the big names of today decide to go, F1 can continue with the big names of yesterday…

    It all seems more likely to be a new team ploy to try and sweeten their chances of being chosen to be on the grid next year in the three remaining positions available (assuming of course the FIA and FOTA work all there problems out).

    Even then using the name of old doesn’t really make your team seem more viable or likely to be followed like the old team was, i don’t see it in anyway a pressure tactic on existing teams as new teams are yet to prove anything that would make them worry and the FOTA has good grounds for arguement either way as they are the blood of the sport and do desrve a voice that is heard.

    Sending in these two bit amateur operations under the guise of former great teams that are now dead is a joke that tarnishes their memory and is a sad pathetic attempt by Mosley to add much needed credibility to his new bargain basement F1 where Bernie pockets all the cash before he pushes up the daisies.

    I dont like saying it as a fan but Williams are now has beens that are in the throws of terminal decline like Lotus, Brabham and March before them (not to mention Tyrrell, Arrows and Ligier). Lola’s last attempt at F1 was an embarassing debacle and the last time Aston Martin had any involvement in F1 Britain had an empire. Truly a miserable effort and a poor rip-off.

    I have watched F1 since 1992, it is such a stupid sport that sums up all that is wrong in the world: egos, power and money. If it does implode into a split then it thoroughly deserves to.
