Here is the FIA press release:
2010 FIA Formula One World Championship Entry List
Following the completion of the applications process for teams to compete in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship, the following teams have been confirmed.
SCUDERIA FERRARI MARLBORO
SCUDERIA TORO ROSSO
RED BULL RACING
FORCE INDIA F1 TEAM
CAMPOS GRAND PRIX
MANOR GRAND PRIX
TEAM US F1
VODAFONE McLAREN MERCEDES*
BMW SAUBER F1 TEAM*
RENAULT F1 TEAM*
PANASONIC TOYOTA RACING*
BRAWN GP FORMULA ONE TEAM*
*These five teams have submitted conditional entries. The FIA has invited them to lift those conditions following further discussions to be concluded not later than close of business on Friday 19 June.
The maximum number of cars permitted to enter the 2010 Championship has been increased to 26, two being entered by each competitor. Pending completion of the discussions referred to above, further due diligence is currently taking place on other potential entries.
Well, at the first sight it looks like common sense has prevailed. The list includes all eight FOTA teams, Williams, Force India and three new entries – Manor, Campos and USF1. It also leaves an extra room of 1 week for all the entrants to agree on the regulations that should allow the conditional entrants to drop their conditions.
But … The list is not without controversy. Three FOTA members – Ferrari, Red Bull and Toro Rosso are listed as unconditional entries. This has been somehow expected as the general believe is all these three (plus Williams and Force India) are contractualy obliged to race. It will interesting to see how will Ferrari, Red Bull and Toro Rosso react to this …
In the meantime FIA continues with the due diligence on other potential entries, just in case …
When it comes to the three new entries the selection of USF1 was widely expected. Campos perhaps was not on everybody’s short list but their selection does not come as a big suprise. What is perhaps surprising is that there is no room for Prodrive while the final entry went to Manor, a team that as far as I remember hasn’t even been mentioned among the candidates …
The 2010 entry list also means the return of Cosworth engines. All the three new entrants – Campos, Manor and USF1 are listed with Cosworth engines. Cosworth disappeared from F1 grid after 2006 season when Toro Rosso switched to Ferrari and Williams to Toyota powerplants.
P.S. FOTA has responded already – see this article over at Autosport.com
Update – Statement from Ferrari:
“Ferrari submitted on 29 May 2009 an entry to the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship which is subject to certain conditions. As of today, these conditions have not been met.
“Notwithstanding this and despite Ferrari’s previous written notice to the FIA not to do so, the FIA has included Ferrari as an unconditional participant in next year’s Formula One World Championship.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, Ferrari reaffirms that it shall not take part in the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship under the regulations adopted by the FIA in violation of Ferrari’s rights under a written agreement with the FIA.”
