2009 Monaco GP – Qualifying – Another pole for Jenson Button

Another pole for Button, best qualifying result of the season for Raikkonen

Another pole for Button, best qualifying result of the season for Raikkonen

Jenson Button will start Monaco Grand Prix from pole position. Next to him on front row will be KERS equipped Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. P3 went to Rubens Barrichello, P4 to Sebastian Vettel. Q3 times of some of the fornt runners are rather quick when compared to Q2 suggesting that top 8 may not have too much fuel on board. We will see later today when FIA publishes the car weights.

Q3 times 2009 Monaco GP:

1. Jenson Button – 1:14.902
2. Kimi Raikkonen – 1:14.927
3. Rubens Barrichello – 1:15.077
4. Sebastian Vettel – 1:15.271
5. Felipe Massa – 1:15.437
6. Nico Rosberg – 1:15.455

8. Mark Webber – 1:15.653
9. Fernando Alonso – 1:16.009
10. Kazuki Nakajima – 1:17.344

There was no major drama in Q2 except for Piquet’s spin (no damage done). Six drivers broke into 1:14s, fastest of them Kimi Raikkonen (1:14.514) ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Mark Webber. Drivers eliminated in Q2:

11. Sebastien Buemi – 1:15.833
12. Nelson Piquet – 1:15.837
13. Giancarlo Fisichella – 1:16.146
14. Sebastien Bourdais – 1:16.281
15. Adrian Sutil – 1:16.545

Nico Rosberg was fastest in Q1 ahead of Jenson Button Mark Webber and Felipe Massa who made it back after early spin and broken nosecone on his Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton was not so lucky. He spun, crashed out and was eliminated. The other drivers eliminated in Q1 were both Toyota and BMW Sauber drivers … Both Force India cars made it to Q2, I believe this is the first time any Force India car survived Q1 …

16. Lewis Hamilton – 1:16.264
17. Nick Heidfeld – 1:16.264
18. Robert Kubica – 1:16.405
19. Jarno Trulli – 1:16.548

Congrats to Brawn again. Can’t help but applaud them. Good to see the scarlet cars making a comeback. But again sorry that Williams can’t quite make it count when it matters.

I hope Kimi gets away from him at the start and we can have an exciting race. But knowing the Iceman, he’ll be up late drinking the free vodka, hitting on the ladies, spending some time at the roulette wheels, the blackjack tables, and the slot machines (do they have those in Monte Carlo?) and going to bed just before morning warmup.

    Don’t forget the ice cream.

  4. Man… I was hoping for Rubens to get the Pole, but I guess 2nd place is good enough, hehe

Maybe Rubens will get a win at Brazil, hehe. That is.. if the Brawn is still the top team come time for Brazil.
