The Renault F1 crash in Dubai – Videos

It has been all over the news. Mohammad Bin Sulayem, 14 times Middle East rally champion, now head of the local automobile federation was taking part in a drag race with a Ford GT40 at the Dubai Autodrome. But shortly after he accelerated down the straight he lost control of the car, spun and smashed into the pit wall. He was OK but the same can’t be said about the car. Here are two videos:

All I can say is OOpps!

It’s all fun and games, but why on earth don’t they leave the F1 cars to the F1 drivers?

Exactly my opinion. as the upper video shows, he didn’t only endanger himself.
What if another spectator standing there would not have reacted that quick?

You’re questioning the need of these road shows?

Was the driver ok? It doesn’t sound like he was without experience, albiet in a different forum.

Who wouldn’t want that opportunity? I would jump at it if given the chance. I am guessing the car was several years old and probably detuned somewhat as well.

Reading in some of the latest news, I found out who is the one who crashed the R28 estimated to be worth around 2.000.000 € (well, with R29′s livery colors) into the pit wall from the Dubai’s Autodrome. FIA’s vice-president and president of the Automobile and Touring Club for UAE. I understood he’s a professional driver, who has 4 championships as part of his record, but I’m amazed still, how can an experienced driver simply lose the control in a straight… Did he have the minimal lessons on a single seater? Few will know this is a part of the deal, mastering less powerful type of cars with similar sensations, as driving with a specific insurance contract. I saw a new video on TV, and the smash into the wall is very heavy… I wouldn’t try such thing even paying if ever had a serious formation. Error could be not only his… Even from the testing team, which could have forgotten the right starting engine map or missed the clutch option in its selector , which could be the failure for this short drag race. Maybe the testing ban measures are firstly affecting the procedures of the people behind the care of the technical side from the car? Not really believe in it, but time to time, they will be not that accurate and used to in some time.

just check the above link to the Top Gear video. It took Hammond quite a while before he managed to get the F1 car moving and that was after spending significant time in weaker Formula car …

I know, I’ve seen the process of single seater trainning several times in the circuit, I’ve seen that video some time ago and was very surprised from the feelings of this Brainiac guy, that’s not the best example, but it is very funny made :) I think there’s a big need to spend hours understanding what the F1 car will do if you don’t manage it correctly, that’s shown in many TV shows which try to give formation to some amateur drivers and give them the chance to have some laps in a F1 car. “The Factory” has shown us in its latest stages, and that’s not a matter of abilities and capacity… Training is really ended for mastering the engine’s horsepower, the time to shift, the strength of the breaks and at the same time having some temperature in the tires. But my thoughts got a wider angle, what if this guy has done all that, did have respectable results in his training process to jump in the F1 car, and then something was wrong in the car’s settings?
