The announcement this morning (or last night, depending where you live) of Honda F1 takeover by Ross Brawn’s Brawn GP and confirmation of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button that came with it filled the final blank fields in the 2009 Formula 1 driver line up. Here it is:

Official – Brawn GP takes over Honda F1 – Button and Barrichello confirmed

Brawn GP logo
Three months after Honda announced their withdrawal from Formula One both Honda and Ross Brawn confirmed the takeover of the team by Ross Brawn and renaming the team to Brawn GP. The team colours appear to be black and yellow (and perhaps white), the logo is quite ugly and their webiste brawngp.com is already up and running. Nick Fry
Nick Fry resurfaced today in Geneva at the FOTA press conference. And although there is still no official announcement on the future of his team he more less confirmed the team has survived (thanks to FOTA) and that the official announcement is coming soon:
“There is an announcement due shortly… that is all I can say.”

Renault threatens to quit F1

Renault’s chief operating officer Patrick Pelata issued at the Geneva Motor Show a direct threat to quit F1 if the teams do not get bigger share of the revenue and the cost are not reduced beyond the cost saving measures agreed recently by FIA and FOTA:
“We are seeking to bring down contract costs and receive more of the revenues. We want to remain part of the emotion and the spectacle of Formula One but there are really no taboos if talks fail.”
Will Bernie Ecclestone take a note and back down or will it take another manufacturer following Honda and pulling out before something changes in the way the revenues are shared ?
Brawn, Button, Barrichello and the secretary

One more season for Rubens Barrichello ?
When it comes to Honda F1 it is still difficult to separate rumours from the real developments. But the news coming out in last few days seem to suggest that:
- the team will be renamed to something close the Brawn Racing
- as expected Jenson Button will drive one of the cars
- as perhaps not that expected Rubens Barrichello will drive the second
