The pace of new McLaren MP4-24 is becoming a hot topic these days. The team either got it wrong, or they are sandbagging, or they simply do not care about the lap times and go testing according their plan. We will see in about two weeks in Melbourne …

But if they indeed got something wrong (as James Allen suggests in his blog) it would not be the first time for them or for another top team. Here is a quick memory refreshing look back to very recent past.
The pre season test in Barcelona continued with day three. The fastest time of the day belongs to Jenson Button who early in the afternoon session posted few very quick laps. His best time 1:19.127 is also the fastest time of the week so far. Whether today’s Button’s time was on empty fuel tank or not it is obvious the Brawn GP car is quick. No other driver this week made it below 1m20s. Second quickest today was Felipe Massa in Ferrari about a second behind. Lewis Hamilton crashed his McLaren damaging the car however he returned back to action later on. His best time was 2.53s slower then Button’s. The busiest drivers of the day were Sebastien Buemi with 140 and Jenson Button with 124 laps. (images from today in the article)
The Barcelona test continued with day 2. The fastest driver of the day was Kimi Raikkonen putting Ferrari at the top of the time sheets for a change. Kazuki Nakajima managed a quick lap placing Williams 2nd for the day. Brawn GP continues to impress with their pace – 3rd fastest time for Rubens Barrichello on his first outing in the new Brawn GP car. What is it with McLaren though – problems or not showing the others what they have up their sleevs ?
There have been many rumours and speculations about Honda F1 future flying around since the car company announced the withdrawal from F1 back in December. Today Ross Brawn revealed a bit more on his new Brawn GP team. At least some of the speculations can now be set to rest.
Bourdais took STR4 to the track for the first time
Interesting day in Barcelona yesterday. Toro Rosso introduced their new car, STR4, a car made in Faenza that “is not a rebadged RB5″. Jenson Button and Brawn GP raised some eyebrows by spending most of the day at the top of the time sheets. At the end the honour of being the fastest driver of the day went to Nick Heidfeld for his 1:20.338 lap. Raikkonen’s Ferrarri and Trulli’s Toyota were about 6 tenths behind. This may suggest that Heidfeld (same as Vettel last week in Jerez) did a low fuel qualifying run. Only 2 tenths further back was Jenson Button.
Scuderia Toro Rosso revealed today their 2009 challeneger – STR4. The car was built (same as Red Bull’s RB5) by Red Bull Technology. And while Toro Rosso’s technical director Giorgio Ascanelli insists the new STR4 is not a rebadged Red Bull Racing RB5 it would be quite difficult to spot too many differences other than those directly related to different engine and then of course the livery. If you spot any, please list them out in the comments ! The STR4 should be the last Toro Rosso car built by Red Bull. From 2010 Toro Rosso should built their own car to comply with the regulations that do not allow teams running customer cars.
It’s time for a little Monday F1 quiz again. This week half of the questions have something to do with F1 teams owned by former Formula 1 drivers, the other half is about the teams or names of the teams that recently appeared in F1. Some are easy, some are tough and question number five is simply confusing given the conflicting information coming from different sources . So, go ahead, choose the answers or make your guess ! You will find all the answers after you complete all 10 questions. As usual please no googling for answers . And do not forget to share your result in comments ! If you missed the past quizzes you can also click here to see and try them.
Together with the roadmap for Formula 1 FOTA last week revealed also the findings of their global audience survey. Seventeen countries were surveyed, F1 devotees as well as marginal and/or low interest fans were polled. Here are the findings: (more…)
The 2009 F1 grid has been finalized and here are the logos of all 10 teams that will participate in 2009 Formula One Championship. Compared to 2008 F1 team logos there are of course missing those of Super Aguri and Honda Racing while Brawn GP is the new addition. There is also change in Force India logo. The capital “I” that resembled the digit “1″ was replaced by “i” making the logo more Ecclestone friendly.
The same day the takeover of Honda F1 by Ross Brawn has been announced Jenson Button took the new Mercedes powered BGP001 to the Silverstone track for shakedown. The team has released some photos – click here to view. The car is rather disappoitingly all white with some touches of black and flourescent yellow. There are some rumours flying around the web that the final livery will be metallic blue with red and white touches but I am not sure based on what those rumours are founded. This is what Ross Brawn had to say when asked about the livery: (more…)
