2009 Formula 1 cars – Here comes the official Williams livery

Williams FW31

Williams FW31

A week after images of FW31 were released by one of William’s sponsors the team put their final version of 2009 livery on display. The livery is almost identical dark blue and white as that that we could see on Allianz website last weekwith most of the advertising space going to RBS and Philips.

What strikes me though is the presence of the cockpit sails or skate fins as well as the strange looking piece of bodywork around the sidepods. Weren’t 2009 Formula cars to be without these things ? I am sure that Williams guys did they homework and found their way around the new regulations. But one must say it did not take long for these things to return …

this brighter blue somehow reminds me of the rothmans williams in the 90s…
I quite like the livery, only the white on top of the sidepods could be a bit less.
Considering the winglets beside the sidepods: they are allowed in 2009, this is the only little zone where such winglets are still legal (and most of the other teams also have them). But these things beside the cockpit are really strange. I thought every piece of bodywork must have a diameter of at least 7.5cm or something like that (which leads to the ban of all flaps that are thinner)?

It is the FW31 in the Williams F1 conference center, the Ayrton Senna Theatre. These fotos appear on the LAT collection for the AT&T Williams F1 Team site and F1.com and other sources may show the same, but they’re not widely shown in the main site of Williams F1 (it’s not strange, but curious that their press department do not care to update the site much). It looks to be a great challanger for this season, just because the test results are very possitive and hopefully it will remain the same way coming into the race season. Do not understand the horns there, but well, the job is done :)

this does not belong to williams, but here are pictures of another new 2009 car – Force India (Rollout in Silverstone):
