It is 80 days before the start of 2009 Australian GP and here comes another instalment of the 2009 Formula 1 Season countdown. I missed the 90 days mark thanks to having to fight some sort of flu over holidays. But the countdown is back and I hope it will now smoothly go on without any further interruptions. So how are things with 80 days to go ?
There have been no driver confirmations since the 100 days mark however according to messages out of Toro Rosso camp it does look like Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi may have his F1 race seat in the bag. So the only question marks remain over the second Toro Rosso seat (more on that here) and of course Honda.
Honda future has not been sorted out yet. The rumours about the deal with Carlos Slim have been strongly denied by both parties but according to optimistic Ross Brawn the negotiations with several interested parties (probably also including Prodrive) are going on. Some announcement is expected around end of January. In the meantime Honda camp confirmed they discussed engine supplies with Ferrari, Ferrari conformed they would be able to supply the ex-Honda team with the horspeowers should someone buy the team out.
Staying with Ferrari – Fernando Alonso was again linked with Ferrari seat…
We haven’t seen any 2009 cars yet but Ferrari, Toyota and McLaren will all roll out their 2009 challenger within next 10 days. Renault, Williams and BMW Sauber will follow shortly after (see the schedule).
The Formula 1 period of peace and quiet was only interrupted by strong words from Sir Jackie Stewart addressed to Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone. There has been no reaction from the men in power yet.
The 2009 Formula 1 Season Countdown will be back again in 10 days.
