Two months to go. Time to summarize what has happened during the past 10 days.
Three more teams launched their 2009 cars – Williams their FW31, Renault their R29 and BMW Sauber their F1.09. Toro Rosso still has one vacancy although rumours are the team will keep Sebastien Bourdais. With 60 days to go Honda team still hasn’t been sold. Red Bull has confirmed they will use KERS developed by Renault.
There were some not so positive news from F1 sponsors. Credit Suisse announced end of their sponsorship of BMW Sauber team, the close look at the F1.09 also revealed that the Dell logo is no longer there. ING (title sponsor of Renault) and RBS (main backer of Williams) announced they are reviewing their involvement in F1. Daily Telegraph summed up the not so rosy current sponsor situation in Formula 1 (click here for the complete article):
“F1 has lost a total of £64m in sponsorship this year and this doesn’t even include the departure of the nine brands.”
Williams in the meantime admitted that the cost cutting measures (and some cash in advance from Bernie) probably saved the team.
We had first few days of proper although mostly wet or windy testing in 2009 – in Mugello, Valencia and Algarve (Portimao).
