Renault are another team to launch their 2009 car today. They joined Williams and revealed their 2009 challenger – R29 – also at Portimao test track. Same as all the other 2009 cars the new Renault sports the massive front wing and tiny tall rear wing. Unlike others however new Renault keeps the 2008 shark fin. There is also small livery change. The addition of Total branding resulted in new colour in the mix – red. I must say the car looks a bit better than the previous pure ING white orange blue yellow combo.

My thoughts on the new Renault:

    1. It reminds me of the Mastercard Lola F1 car from ‘97
    2. It looks like something Ronald McDonald would drive
    3. That nose! How did they fail recent FIA safety tests with that gigantic thing?

Saying the thing looks horrible are still good words for this revolutionary design from ht French ones… Covered rear suspension and this hummer for the front wing!! It looks like a pregnat! and this nosecone is just so bizzare!! (‘97 Tyrrell-Ford)
I can’t say this is a bad car, it may have this design due some DCF analysis and results. But anyway, this launch has been the one which disappointed me more. Even the colours are strange and their livery layout. Hopefully the extra HP gained this winter makes the difference :P

Just when I didn’t think these cars could get any uglier with the massive front wing and small back wing, Renault makes it look like a pregnant cow too with the way they designed the side ducts. Yuk! The ugly colors dont help, bring back the blue/green and hurry!

Definitely a scary colour scheme on this one.
Have to wonder who got handed the paint brush this year don’t you?
Last years colours were much nicer than this and obviously the old blue/yellow was still the best.
The red on the side of the rear and front wing just doesn’t suit at all and makes it look very tacky.
If it had a better paint scheme, the design itself wouldn’t be so bad either, though it is interesting to see the front wing, a few teams have definitely got some totally opposite designs going on there….

someone has to go for the scary colour schemes when Toyota keeps painting their car in the same boring red/white livery :-)

lol this is true, the old BAR split sponsored car isn’t around anymore, well not for years anyway.

Or even the lime green minardi, when Telefonica were sponsoring them, that wasn’t that great either!

Ah well, i guess it is true that we do need a team with a terrible paint job to inspire us to bag them out about it!

And yes i agree that the toyota livery is very boring isn’t it? You gotta wonder why they can’t be just a little more creative with it!?!

Best paint scheme for me is still either the Mclaren or the Scuderia Torro Rosso cars, love the bulls on the side of that thing!
