The 2009 launch season continues with launch of BMW Sauber F1.09 in Valencia. The car is very similar to the very first hybrid tested in Barcelona in 2008. I must say, BMW Sauber is not the best looking 2009 Formula One car …  It does look better than Renault though.

The traditional blue-white BMW livery looks rather empty after departure of their long time sponsor Credit Suisse … Here are the first pictures:

Shortly after unveiling the car Robert Kubica took the 2009 BMW Sauber for a spin on the track:

Looks uncannily like a Formula BMW car!

The comparison shot with last year’s F1.08 I’ve seen is particularly striking and shows just how many aerodynamic flick-ups, winglets etc were present. The new cars look relatively basic in comparison, there better be more over-taking as a result!

This car doesn’t look that bad really, not as scary as i thought it would be when you look at the first pictures of the interim cars back in November.
The new rules have made all the cars look very “simple” in design and definitely have made designers try a few quirky things with the front nose and wing of the car.
Having a great love for F1 even through all the crap over the years, am looking forward to this year and how all the new cars run. Honestly the designs have grown on me already and some of them do look pretty good….until you stick them next to last years car and you realise how good they used to look…lol.

Here’s hoping that the BMW and Renault cars can challenge for wins this year and even the Toyota to make the championship a real battle for the first time in a long time! Hell even throw in a Williams victory or two, that would make my day!

well, at the end it will be the perfomance not the beauty that will matter :-)

we can’t compare the performance of the cars yet, they are all only learning workings of their new cars, they all run in wet and on three different tracks. but that Williams is showing some impressive reliability even this early on. I hope that means they got the things right and not that they decided to play safe instead of pushing the limits …

Though the question of reliability is very important this season with them only being able to use eight engines in total for the season.
Interesting on that point that the eight engines can be used at any time and don’t have to be used in a row or anything like that. If a team has some bullet proof reliability for a decent amount of race power they could stretch out the engine life and turn one of the engines into a qualifying engine for each race and amp up the power a little bit…within the rules of course!
The gearbox now is four races worth as well i believe too.
