Standard Cosworth engines to go ahead, Renault among the takers ? – Update – Renault reaction

Renault Cosworth from 2010 ?

Renault Cosworth from 2010 ?

When Autosport runs a story it usually turns out to be true. So this may be more than just a rumour. Cosworth is about to return to Formula 1 with a bang – powering half of the F1 grid.

It looks like Max Mosley got all the signatures he needed for go ahead with the Cosworth standard engine program. He needed at least 4 teams to sign up for three-year Cosworth engine deal. The reports are he got five.

It is not such a surprise that all the indpendents – Williams, Force India, Red Bull and Toro Rosso are interested in the economy engine option. The fifth team is said to be Renault

Renault-Cosworth instead of Benetton-Renault, Williams-Renault, Red Bull-Renault or simply Renault ? Interesting proposition … And what a major coup for Max Mosley this would be …

Reaction by Renault:

“Following speculation that appeared this morning in the Italian press, the ING Renault F1 Team would like to state that the positions of the Team and Renault are in complete accordance to those of the FOTA.

We would like to point out that neither Mr. Briatore nor Renault have spoken to the press regarding this matter before this official press release.”

The above is what media say is reaction from Renault on the Cosworth engines rumours. Help me out here. What is it that they are saying ?

lower costs are great. a motor producer abandoning its own motor and go for another? strange days we live in.. if now they could only find a buyer for honda i would feel great about the new season as well!

daniels last blog post..Vad gör ex-F1-föraren Jos Verstappen nu för tiden (förutom att stalka ex-frun och skär sönder hennes bildäck)?

I wonder whether anyone can be competitve with this engine? Cosworth has been out of F1 for years. Does anyone know what they have done to develop this engine?

it depends on what engines will be used from 2010. if they go on using current 2.4 litre V8s than Cosworth still has the engine they supplied to WIlliams in 2006. Since then the development was frozen. And although all the other engine maker still managed to tweak it here and there exploring the regulation loopholes I do not think it would be such a big problem for Cosworth to get their V8 up to the standard

there is however that idea presented by FOTA to move from current engines to smaller 1.8 litre turbocharged ones from 2010. if that idea is accepted than all the engine makers would have to come up with new powerplants
