2008 Brazilian F1 GP – Win for Massa, title for Hamilton

First title for McLaren since Mika Hakkinen

First title for McLaren since Mika Hakkinen

We can positively say that the title race went down to the wire. Lewis Hamilton had his title in control for most of the race. But then the rain came in the final laps and 2 laps from the end he dropped behing Sebastian Vettel to 6th place. While the cameras focused on Hamilton vs Vettel fight for 5th place the fourth placed Glock slowed down (loosing 22 sec on the last lap) and Hamiton took the 5t place back in the last corner. Massa’s camp did not notice that and went on celebrating, Hamilton’s camp realized that and went on celebrating too … It was bizzare but nail biting finish to the 2008 season, the title was decided on the last corner of the final race of the season :-) .

There are already people out there suspecting some “foul” play from Glock. Well, I am not really a Hamilton fan and I admit I was cheering for Massa today. But in all fairness the Glock case does look like pure gamble on staying on dry tyres that did not work out at the end. Loosing 22 seconds on one lap may seem a lot but remember 2008 Belgian GP and what happened there on last 2 rainy laps ?

Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton – the youngest Formula 1 champion ever, well done to Felipe Massa.

I don’t know about Glock, after Hamilton passed him he seemed to get some speed back…. unfortunate for Massa

Both Toyotas dropped off to the same extent. While some might suggest a conspiricy, I seriously think that as you say it was a gamble that didn’t pay off for Toyota, and gave us an extraordinary end to an extraordinary year.

If you look at the replay you see Glock obviously slow, not because of his tires, the corner was dry,

He let those cars by..it was on purpose!!!

Yes. I definitely a consipracy. It is a fact that Glock was on unfavorable tires. But during the first stint also, if you heard the commentators and driver – team radio, the last section of the lap leading to the start-finish line is the driest portion of the track. If Lewis overtook him in that section, because of Glock’s intermediate tire (not even the dry tire), I can’t beleive it.

Fantastic race, fantastic season, another question-mark in the end…. We all were also celebrating Massa but than we suddenly found out that Glock disappeared from 4th – asking why he? Pitty for Massa, he did what he could. Results are done and this is not first result we could discuss this season. So lets hope for unpredictable nice and fair races ahead us!

It was a great race and yes I was pacing hoping that Massa would pull it off. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I can’t figure out why Glock was so slow.

  7. Wow!!! Lewis Hamilton will be making more than $100 million a year and he is dating a Pussycat Doll. 2008 is the year of Lewis Hamilton.

I didn’t like that, seemed to me that there was some kind of accord between Toro Rosso, Force India and Ferrari to set the cars between them and the McLarens.
But also didn’t like how foolish looked to be Glock again, It wasn’t a move to let pass Lewis and gift him the driver’s title because he needed to leave pass both Vettel and Hamilton and any team principal would accept to leave pass some direct competitor on the constructors table, but it looked kind of unfair. I went on liking him more this season because I had to shut up with my critics when Glock showed he has speed, but he hasn’t been good enough still to match his team-mate (even if they’re next to each other in the drivers table), Glock showed to be really immature on his second stage in F1, and as Piquet Jr. I would throw him away.

I had guests at home, some for Ferrari and some for McLaren. And the last laps were a chaos here :-) We had a enjoyable day but, the result for me still doesn’t feel satisfactory, when will be there a Williams driver??? HEHE
