Ferrari extends Raikkonen’s contract to the end of 2010

Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari
Ferrari again had an annoucement to make during their home race weekend in Monza. The team confirmed yesterday the extension of Kimi Raikkonen’s contract to the end of 2010 season ending the speculations about Raikkonen’s retirement. With Felipe Massa already having his contract for 2009 and 2010 it is rather safe to assume that Ferrari driver line up Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen will remain the same for the next 2 seasons. That is also what the team’s statement says:
“Ferrari announces that it has extended its agreement with Kimi Raikkonen to the end of the 2010 race season. Therefore, the Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro driver line-up remains unchanged for the next two coming seasons.”
In some way however this may also be good news for Fernando Alonso. Although this announcement puts an end to the “Alonso to Ferrari” rumours it also allows him to sign longer term contract with another team without missing out on opening in Ferrari (should that be his ultimate dream destination). I would not be surprised if some announcement about Alonso’s future now comes sooner rather than later.
