well, I visited Tasmania I think 3 years ago and must say that is really punishing environment. it is beautiful but the mountains are tough and the roads there are not exaclty 4 lane highways. Having this in mind I am with Stew on this one - how come when event like this is organized there is even a chance for a 4WD to appear going head on against the bikers ...

getting rid of those good old and POPULAR Grands Prix is something that will one day come back to haunt Mr Ecclestone

but with some tweaking that medal thing may not be that wrong. in any case, the drivers are already catgorizied, tere are winners, there are the ppdium scorers tere are those in points here and then and theb there is the rest ...

this is how the 2008 final standings would look under medal system:

what would be the order in 2008 with the medal sysyem in place ?

1. Massa
2. Hamilton
3. Raikkonen
4. Alonso
5. Kubica
6. Kovalainen
7. Vettel

In the case of the top 2 who knows what would have happened if they had to go for win race in race out instead of preserving the points lead. at the same time I believe that Ferrari would throw their support behind Massa few races earlier.

the only one eliminated from top 7 would be Heidfeld as he won zero races.

I do not understand both of his purposes, to delete classical GP's for new events in other places to get the F1 more popular (where else???) and the pursiut of making F1 drivers categories or classification (as they would be placed in 4 shelfs, those who won, those who were second, and third, and those who are losers). My credit to that revolutionary ideas is low still.

I guess this isn't his first broken bone, as very active sportsman he's treating and almost punishing his body usually to very hard conditions all the year long (I've also read that he's mad about every kind of sport, he's very competitive and practice them without stop). He suits the idea of RedBull company I think, but does he suit the idea of an F1 principal??? If he gets hurt and does not get fit and be in excellent shape, the team managers should be worried about, after all the car doesn't drive itself!!
And also any professional driver should think about his own health, his body won't last young long and it is the period of their life to care about being competitive and not being injured.
But well, now it's time to rest well after a long season and Webber has opportunity to recover and be fit for the next season, doesn't matter much if he does test or not because there're already test-drivers for these purposes. Good luck for him is that he got the resources (the interest and the money from an F1 team), to be perfect conditions for the next season.

But he's accident is still a reason for discuss, some illness can only be treated well if the patient has got the means to be treated. While he will be done in 3 months or less with his broken leg, an usual man will need about half a year or more to fix he's problems (telling that with own experiences). And I do pity Mark Webber, but that things happen to anybody. Sorry also for Stew and hopefully you recover soon :-)

They look diformed anyway.... I bet this architecture won't hold too many years, teams will want to improve the aerodynamical performance anyway. And also bet that F1 won't be open wheel too much time, but time will show us :-)

It is about 1000 km driving almost straight line, from here to Madrid it's about 900 km. Yeah it isn't really big distance compared with huge countries as China or USA :-P But you know Europe is really tinny. Anyway the trip from Barcelona to Jerez is about 10 hours. A long journey compared with a visit to the track of Barcelona, it takes me only 15min to arrive there.

the constructors championship would not be affected. the driveres would still collect point from 1-8 but those would only count towards constructors table, the "medals" would decide the drivers title

I can't believe changing to medals, limit awards to the top three is good for the sport. How can you leave the bottom tier teams completely out of scoring? These teams struggle enough to generate both advertising and fan support, eliminating their chance of scoring surely has to hurt, and perhaps chase teams from F1.

It appears that the world is starting to push back on Bernie and his huge $$$$ demands to bring his F1 product to your city. Perhaps Tony George was ahead of his time in telling Bernie that F1 was not worth the big $$$$. Canada and now China appear to be following suit. Perhaps now the teams and their sponsors will have some pull in placing races in key markets.
