Yesterday evening while waiting for my flight to Montreal I spotted one of the F1 team bosses waiting at the same gate for the same flight. I was not really sure whether it was him or not. But after a while I had no doubts. The nice guy pulled out a bunch of A3 size papers from his briefcase with what looked like F1 car computer drawings. The thing was they did not look anything even close like the car they are racing now. They looked much more like the F1 cars of 1990 or 1991. Low front wing, narrow rear wing positioned higher than the current F1 cars, no “shark fin” at all
. The rear tyres were thinner though than back in 1990s. So will the cars next year have the early 1990s look ?
What however struck me is how careless this person was. If I wanted I could have taken photos of pretty much every sheet of paper as he was studying them…

huh
Well, I would love to see larger rear wheels than what it is for now though. 1990 & 1991 alike for 2009 would be awesome, but will we see the titanium skid plates sparks from the bottom of the car in the Senna – Mansell duel above? The answer is – No. Pity isn’t it? Senna’s death was blamed because of the car too low to the ground with the friction of those skid plates & makes turning difficult. I find that silly. Anyway, great to know roughly how 2009 cars will look. Anyway, I do hope to see H shifters return to F1 rather than sticking to those boring ‘I won’t miss a gear’ paddle shifters. They’re really easy to drive & drivers will only put both arms on steering, so boring! Plus, no overtaking can be easily made. I have watched some Formula Palmer Audi, they’ve H shifters! Awesome sound of those gate lock of the gears & lovely downshift sounds too. (remember the driving style of Ayrton Senna, great monstrous downshift when in Suzuka for eg). Hope 2009 will be good & hope F1 will turn towards the brighter side than those ugly winglets & horns & ears & fins etc keep increasing. Cheers & enjoy your Montreal GP. Salut Gilles!
Maybe he just wanted that people can see him, some persons are ill to feel world’s center. Such secrets doesn’t come to the light easily, or it was some kind of Stepney or Coulghan or that thing which you saw is somebody with some idea who which is trying to sell it over the team, and needs that it becomes seen and popular. But I really doubt in it, designs don’t come out from the F1 factories usually, and they’re in complete secret the whole season from one departament to another departaments even, only they begin to share them when it’s needed to build something together.
Whatever, yes it can be some fool who haven’t much care. I don’t want to say that you can’t have the correct guess
well the guy I saw is a team co-owner (of your favourite team
)
Holly shit… HAHAHA
Only if you managed to do photos!!!
My god… One thing is walking with designs copies, anybody could steal them and take good profit, another thing is showing them almost to everybody!
Humm… I’m with big hopes their performance rise, but how to hope it when such things happen?
trust me, I was seriously thinking about taking photos, it was very tempting, but at the end I decided to be nice
It was Patrick Head?
he looked very much like the guy on this photo

I couldn’t suspect of him
But to have the designs for the 2009’s car advanced, hey I’m happy they’re doing it
But nobody can say what it will be… Next tests design? Ideas for the 2010? A painting from his little daughter? Of course you had a great spot, and such moment only lives once
I imagine your excitement then, feeling a spy and peeking HEHE Thanks for the info again, I will think more about that flat cars.

What about the sidepods? Will they be coke bottle shaped as now or more ‘90 ‘91 like? Could you tell that from what you saw?
well I can’t tell about side pods, I was a bit too far and also I could only see the sideview drawing. the sidepods would be better visible from the front view drawings
