What is happening to Lewis Hamilton ? Should he be dropped ?

And now it is time for a very biased post 
Remember this ?
3 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 1 – 1 – 3 – 3
These are the first nine races of 2007 season (and Hamilton’s F1 career) – 9 podiums, 70 points
Now compare with this:
5 – 2 – 4 – 1 – DNF – 7 – 1 – 5 – 13
These are the results of Lewis Hamilton in last 9 F1 races – 3 podiums, 43 points.
The F1 Racing magazine had an article with title like this in their last issue:
“Lewis set to be champ after Australia win”
I could not believe they actually wrote that. To sum up the article, because most of the Australian GP winners in past years went on to win the title, Hamilton now must win the title. If this is the fact I do not see why we need 18 races, but whatever …
Now compare Hamilton’s stats with this:
1 – DNF – 2 – 6 – 3 – 2 – DNF – DNF – 1
Last 9 races, 5 podiums, 45 points
Not great either, but better than Hamilton’s last 9. Who is that? Well, Felipe Massa… More podiums and more points in last 9 races than Hamilton.
Hamilton has been already crowned 2008 F1 champion by some, Massa has been already replaced by Vettel or Alonso in Ferrari by many … Well different drivers get different treatment …
I admit these stats are rather twisted but if others can fool around with numbers why can’t I . I decided to use 9 races statistics for 2 reasons:
a) The 9 consecutive podiums for Hamilton would make a nice benchmark
b) Nine races makes pretty much half of a season …
Just for the record, no, I do not think Hamilton should be dropped …

Was the really F1 Racing’s headline? Wow.
At any rate, no, I don’t think Hamilton should be dropped. I wonder if comparing the two sets of nine races as you’ve done tells us more about the decline of McLaren? How would they look if you put the same numbers for Alonso and Kovalainen alongside them?

I don’t think Hamilton should be dropped but I do wish the media would stop with their overhype of him, it’s not going to lead anywhere good…Anyway great site, just come across it through F1 Fanatic – keep up the good work!

Biased post or not, I’ve seen the same points comparisan on a couple other sites.
However, it’s way too early to speculate on Hamilton’s replacement, the kids obviously got talent. Keith is probably closest to being on the money, Hamilton’s “monoque” ain’t what she used to be.
Time tor Ron Dennis to step it up.

yes, the car may have something to do with it, but if wants to be a champ and get that USD4 mil McLaren F1 LM car Ron promised him, he needs to start beating his team mate

I think Mclaren are struggling a little bit so far getting the balance of the car right. I still don’t rate Hamilton as a great driver. He needs a few more seasons under his belt and then we’ll see his consistency over a season, position wise. On a sepate issue, did anyone notice that the BMW’s seemed to match pace with both Ferarri’s? someone gained a bit of speed from what everyone thought were mid table only teams.

Neither of the McLaren’s are performing near Ferrari. The only reason Ferrari isn’t way ahead in the constructors championship is that Massa put his car off the first two races.
At this point, McLaren is fighting for 2nd with Sauber. With three weeks off, it will be interesting to see if they can regroup and challenge Ferrari.

I wish the media would stop with the overhype of Hamilton as well. Yes he is good, but calling him a champion after 1 of 18 races is rediculous.
I don’t think McLarens are that far off Ferrari personally. Their results in Bahrain and Sepang is deceptive as Hamilton was hurt by his start mistake, a accident and a poor pitstop.
I never hear talks about Heidfeld winning the championship, but he has scored 35 points in the last 9 races and that includes 6 races in a car that definately was not as good as the McLaren or Ferrari last year.
Heidfeld is 2nd in the drivers championship and with the BMW’s leading the champtionship in points and looking fast Heidfeld and Kubica deserves more attention.
It would be a good ballance anyway to all the attention the media always seem to give to all British talents. I can’t count the times I have heard the England should win the World Cup in Soccer feks

i dont really care what happens to Hamilton but i want to see Alonso race with kimi. im not saying i want massa gone from ferrari but ive always wanted to see kimi and alonso together

I think that Lewis Hamilton should not be dropped by McLaren because he is a very talented driver.
