2008 F1 Prediction Game - Round 2 - Malaysian GP
The second race of the 2008 season is here - the circus moves to Malaysia this weekend. The weather forecasts suggest the weather may not be all sunny during the weekend. This is not going to make the predictions any easier
Few people missed out on round one but with 17 rounds still to go there still may be a chance to collect enough points to fight for the win. All one needs is few results like our round 1 winner
So place your predictions in the comments below this post:

For Sepang, let me think a min…
Qualy
Pole position to: F. Massa - Ferrari
Race
Fastest lap to: K. Raikkonen - Ferrari
1st place: F. Massa - Ferrari
2nd place: L. Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes
3rd place: K. Raikkonen - Ferrari
4th place: H. Kovalainen -McLaren Mercedes
5th place: N. Heidfield - BMW Sauber
6th place: N. Rosberg - Williams Toyota
7th place: R. Kubica - BMW Sauber
8th place: J. Trulli - Toyota
In such kind of track the reliability will be the greatest compromise, but teams can’t drill holes everywhere in their machines since Australia’s GP. So we will expect many unexpectable. Again, hope the real result is far away from my prediction. Williams go on!!

Looks like 4 correct pole position predictions
March 22nd, 2008 at 9:33 pm
Yeah! Nobody expected Massa, but need to remember about his statistics. Even no far to find out that last year he did it, the POLE.
P1 in Malaysia doesn’t mean everything, last year Alonso and Hamilton showed us how to move up in the grid and sliding on the first places in the first curve (and Hamy to the second one).
But historically, Sepang, is a circuit where the pole is usually who have the greatest chance to win. We will see about it tomorrow. Rain? Dry? Motor blow up? Gearbox limit? Porus or explosion on the tires? Suspension brake? Or even, faint of a driver?
Sepang is the MOST CHALLENGING. Nothing can be forgotten, the last year McLaren showed how the cars work, very good. But this year The Ferrari from Massa have all the chances.
But it was a realisitc thought.
Congratulations all which thought about him, it wasn’t easy

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT!!!
McLaren Mercedes drivers have been punished dropping 5 positions each. This have been decided by the stewards for blocking the way to the drivers in fast lap after falling the checked flag, Heikki and Hamilton were crossing the track several times from side to side while fast cars were passing like rockets, like we saw in the Q3 on the videotape, Heidfield pass with a speed above 250km/h to 3 cars, two placed on the way (both McLaren) and one to the dirty side (BMW from Kubica, molodets!).
This affected not only Heidfield, also Alonso. The McLaren drivers were recieving advises to get another position on the track through radio, both, but they didn’t realise at time…
During all the weekend several inqueries to this drivers have been recieved by all the teams, they choose an incredible slow speed to come back to the pit-lane.
The dirty maneers, McLaren Mercedes drivers follow on with tricks? Well… This made all the remaining drivers to demand to the FIA to regulate the minimum speed to come back to the pit after a fast lap, they demand a rule. So the drivers from McLaren have been dropped 5 places on the grid.
The final grid will be:
1. Felipe Massa, Ferrari
2. Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari
3. Jarno Trulli, Toyota
4. Robert Kubica, BMW Sauber
5. Nick Heidfeld, BMW Sauber
6. Mark Webber, Red Bull
7. Fernando Alonso, Renault
8. Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren (PUNISHED, blocking the way to drivers in fast lap)
9. Lewis Hamilton, McLaren (PUNISHED, blocking the way to drivers in fast lap)
10. Timo Glock, Toyota
11. Jenson Button, Honda
12. David Coulthard, Red Bull
13. Nelson Piquet, Renault
14. Rubens Barrichello, Honda
15. Sebastian Vettel, Toro Rosso
16. Nico Rosberg, Williams
17. Giancarlo Fisichella, Force India
18. Sebastien Bourdais, Toro Rosso
19. Takuma Sato, Super Aguri
20. Adrian Sutil, Force India
21. Anthony Davidson, Super Aguri
22. Kazuki Nakajima, Williams (BANNED, after crash in Australia to Kubica)
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:02 pm
The super slow speeds of the cars returning to pits are result of the new rules that do not allow refueling after Q3 and before the race start. All the cars try to save up as much fuel as possible …
The demotion of 2 McLarens makes the race tomorrow even more unpredictable
But if it rains, the starting grid will not mean much
March 22nd, 2008 at 10:17 pm
Yeah, now slower cars are between, but with little chances. I imagine my prediction is close to useless, Rosberg isn’t there (he advise the new layer of asphalt on the track made the tires all the weekend responding without precission). And now the penality to McLaren’s on the grip.
With rain, there is a lotery!! If rain will be there I think there are chances even to Nakajima, we will see about it. Well, I´ll go to relax my nerves
Selamat malam to all!!
(Selamat malam - should be good night in Malaysian)
