My Way Too Early Prediction For 2008 Formula 1 Season

It is just about a month to go and I am going to be silly enough to predict the team’s pecking order for 2008 season :-) . The prediction comes with a preview of all 2008 liveries, as we know them now. Super Aguri is yet to display anything on or off the track…

1) Ferrari – Kimi is having a blast

Ferrari Valencia January 2008

2) McLaren – They are up there, but they do not have Kimi

McLaren Valencia January 2008

3) Renault – The six tenths guy will make a difference

Renault R28 - 2008

4) BMW – May be closer to Ferrari and McLaren on performance but Renault will re-enter the picture

BMW Sauber 2008

5) Williams – More competitive than in 2007 but so will be others

Above is the winter livery. Williams will only reveal their racing one before the Aussie GP, but here is a sneak peak.

6) Red Bull – Solid midfielders with a shot at the podium once or twice

Red Bull RB4 with fin

7) Toyota – The best of the Japanese brands on the grid (Bridgestone does not count :-) )

Toyota 2008

8 ) Honda – Will start a further down but will gain few places during the season

Honda RA108 side

9) Toro Rosso – They may have few decent finishes, but their points will not be good for better than 9th

Toro Rosso 2008 Livery

10) Force India – They will be much more competitive than Spyker last year, but 10th will about as much as they can hope for. They would however score some points.

11) Super Aguri – They will probably survive the season despite Mosley’s worries, but at the back of the order and likely without any points.

Feel free to disagree and leave your order in the comments :-) . And do not forget to join the 2008 Prediction Game !

  1. I hope that Felipe can win over Kimi. I like Felipe!

Kimi is looking good, is it too late to change my prediction :)

Also is it just me that me thinks the Force India car is the best looking car there?

not late :-), you can change it anytime before the first session in Melbourne

Force India car is definitelly different and that makes it interesting. if I went for class would have to choose Williams or Ferrari

  4. No one like’s Felipe Massa? hehe :(

  5. F1WolfNo Gravatar says:

Massa will probably have a good shot at top 3 finish in drivers championship and may rake up few race wins. but whether he will be able to beat Kimi consistently is a question … at this moment Kimi seems to be much more comfortable in the new car without the driver aids. But who knows, there is still a month to go before the first race …

What to pick…..I go with your picks, but I’ll go out on a limb and put Honda ahead of Toyota (don’t quote me on that). I want to put Force India higher, but can’t just yet.

I think (or hope :-) ) that Honda will be better than Toyota by the end of the season, but not sure whether it will be enough to actually finish above Toyota in the table

Honda has a history of turning things around during the season (2004 jumping ahead of Renault for 2nd place thanks to better 2nd half of the season , or thanks to Renault getting ready for theior title assault in 2005… ), 2005 getting back to podiums after almost half a season without points and few race exclusions. Last year however it was not the case (unless we consider jumping ahead of Super Aguri almost at the last moment as turnaround)

I like Sauber for third over Renault, although I anticipate it being very close. Sauber seems to be making the greatest progress and their wind tunnels are supposed to be second only to Ferrari.

I have to agree with Stew that Honda should outpoint Toyota. Ross Braun should give them the edge.

I had hoped that 2007 would see four teams fighting for wins every week (Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, and Sauber). Unfortunately, Renault fell off pace and Sauber just did not make enough ground up to Ferrari and McLaren.

So far it looks like Ferrari is going to do a repeat of 2004, but its early and I am still hoping that we have four teams fighting for top honors every week and the championship.

  9. F1WolfNo Gravatar says:

the group behind Ferrari and McLaren looks to be very strong, BMW, Renault, Williams, Renault. That may actually drive up their performances as the season progresses and push them closer to the top 2 … That is what I hope for at least :-)

  10. [...] 2008 F1 season finale, it is about the time to begin the evaluations here. Not everything went according to pre-season predictions, some teams did better some much worse than expected (or hoped). But let’s forget about the [...]
