If not Renault then where would Alonso go? Surely Toyota and Red Bull would not be competitive enough for him?

If he brings his famous 0.6 second with him, he could help them up the grid a bit and if they let him stay for just 1 year, that may be exactly what he wants, if he plans to join Ferrari in 2009 (as rumours say is the case, who knows).

But the fact a driver like him still did not find a team for next year may also mean, that it is not that easy to do it when you quit (or you are fired) without having any plans in mind. Even for a driver of Alonso’s caliber… Both Toyota and Red Bull also have their drivers confirmed already. That may mean nothing, as contracts are there to be ripped off, but if he is only looking for 1 year contract, why would Red Bull or Toyota go through the hassle of getting rid of one of their contracted drivers …

It looks like if Alonso wants to drive and not to sit out the whole season, he will have to take what is on offer.
