Red Bull’s Triple Denial

One top Czech expert on sexual and marital problems advises all the men to always “deny, deny, deny” if asked by wives about any other women. Telling the truth in these situations does not help at all, he says.

Looks like the Red Bull guys have been listening to him :-)

First David Coulthard, on Monday:

“I cannot see Fernando Alonso joining Red Bull in 2008, and I am 100 percent certain that I will be racing for them next year. I was never worried about that, even when the rumours first surfaced about Alonso.”

Then Mark Webber, on Tuesday:

“I haven’t gone through my contract in that sort of detail but I’m pretty sure I’ll be driving there. David is obviously looking at it a bit more than I am.”

And finally Dietrich Mateschitz, the Red Bull owner, also on Tuesday:

“If there is speculation in the Italian media that Alonso is about to sign for Red Bull, I can only say – I know nothing about that. Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso have four drivers under contract. From what I hear, Alonso is speaking to other teams about a one-year only deal. Such a deal is out of question for us. We would prefer to wait a year and prove that we can build a car which is capable of attracting one of the best Grand Prix drivers for 2009. Of all teams which Alonso would have to chose, we for sure would be an alternative with big potential.”

So, we have three “deny, deny, deny” here from within Red Bull in a span of 2 days. But am I the only one who remembers this same Dietrich Mateschitz, discussing the same topic few weeks back and saying that although Red Bull has 2 drivers under contract, there is nothing sure in Formula 1 ?

  1. Oh this happens all the time. It’s just their way of trying to not give anything away. There is loads of talk now about Alonso joining Red Bull but I can’t see it happening, will still be very surprised if he doesn’t join Renault, although that has stalled now with Alonso on holiday!

yes, it always happens, but I am wondering why Red Bull kept quiet for so long and all of a sudden in a span of 2 days both drivers + the team owner find it necessary to come out and deny
