Formula 1 – Brazilian GP – Friday Practice

Flag Brazil
The first Friday practice session was declared wet but drying during the session. Few drivers – Heidfeld, Kubica, Alonso and Fisichella did not record any times. The quickest cars were Ferraris, ahead of Kovalainen, Rosberg, Hamilton and Schumacher. Vettel had impressive session too with 7th fastest time.

The track was fast drying in the second practice. Drivers had started on intermediate tyres, but once they switched to dry weather tyres the lap times tumbled. McLarens were the fastest cars with Ferraris not that far behind. Raikkonen’s time may be a bit misleading after his lock up while trying to overtake Hamilton. Good session for Fisichella and Kubica. Both Williams cars made it to top eight. Not a big surprise in case of Rosberg, but very encouraging result from Nakajima. But look back to Friday practice in China, where Nakajima replaced Wurz, his finished 9th there. Toro Rosso cars seem to be very competitve in the wet, but dry track sends them back to their part of the field – difference between their result in 1st and 2nd session indicates that.

Off the track Hamilton, Sato and Button were investigated by stewards for using extra set of wet weather tyres. It looks like FIA preferred not to mess up with the title fight and decided only to impose Euro15,000 penalties and take back the sets of tyres used by teams. I am sure this will again create some heated discussions but, let’s be glad the title still seems to poised for decision on the track. In case of rain however, Hamilton will have one less set of wet tyres to use this weekend.
