So far Tomas Enge is the only Czech driver who made it to F1. However all he managed were 3 races in 2001. Demise of the Prost F1 team and then his cannabis trouble in F3000 pretty much ended any chance of him making a F1 return. Now it looks like there is a new rising star of open wheel racing coming out of Czech Republic – Josef Kral.

Josef Kral was born on June 15, 1990 in Dvur Kralove n/Labem in the Czech Republic. He began his carting career at the age of 8. He is a 3 times carting champion of Czech Republic (1999, 2001, 2003). In 2005 he began training and testing in Formula BMW. In his first season he finished 12-th in the Formula BMW Germany. He then went on to finish 2nd in the World Final Formula BMW 2006 in Valencia only to be disqualified for car technical violations. This season he races in Formula BMW UK. He is currently 3rd in the overall standings, with one race to go and still in a position to fight for the title. It may be too early to discuss his chances of ever making it to F1 but this guy sure is one of the up and coming drivers to watch.
