The f1fanatic.co.uk runs an interesting series of articles on up and coming racing drivers called “Meet The Rookies”. I think this is a great idea. And if you do not want to be surprised in the future again with an “unknown” guy making a big impact on F1 as Hamilton is making this year I would recommend to go and read the articles in the “Meet The Rookies” series of f1fanatic website.
I add a bit myself to promote the young guns with this little photo gallery from GP2 race in Monaco 2007. I also make all these photos available for download in high resolution at the bottom of the article. The photos feature the following GP2 drivers – B.Senna, Chandhok, Conway, Garcia, Maldonado, Negrao, Petrov, Pizzonia, Rodriguez, Tahinci and Zaugg. Enjoy !

Even we have no races until August 26, things are happening and driver rumours do not seem to stop. There is still the Alonso vs Hamilton vs McLaren situation. The 2008 grid very much depends on how McLaren will settle their internal unrest. It looked like the things might be calming down, based on Hamilton’s statements that Alonso is talking to him again. However the reports that Alonso declined offer by Ron Dennis to join him on board Mansour Ojjeh’s 72-metre super-yacht indicates otherwise. Dennis reportedly invited Alonso to smoothen the tension. Alonso though prefers to stick to his original plans. There go the peace talks…

Only a week ago Toro Rosso confirmed Sebastien Bourdais as their driver for 2008 season. He will be new to F1, but definitely not a racing rookie. His 3 Champ Cars titles (and 4th still possible this year) are impressive.

Let’s see how will his career in F1 turn out. Several winners of CART Championship (Champ Cars’ predecessor) moved to F1 in recent years.

I obtained some information directly from the Shanghai International Circuit. I am not able to guarantee it, as have not seen the track and stands myself since the storms. But the information is, that the damaged stands are in the D section, the other grandstands should be OK.

Two bits of information caught my eye today. The news about the beginning of the works on the Singapore F1 track and the information about teams taking some steps towards overtaking.
First a quote from Singapore Tourist Board:
The 5.05km long street circuit offers a number of overtaking opportunities, fast turns and technically challenging sections for F1 race drivers, which, in turn, will present viewers with compelling race action to keep them on the edge of their seats.

According to the Singapore Tourist Board, the works on the Singapore street track are to begin soon. They promise number of overtaking opportunities to us. If that will proove to be true we may have one hell of an exciting race ahead of us next fall.

Singapore, 10 August 2007 – The process to get the street circuit ready for the inaugural Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 has been set in motion. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is slated to begin road works sometime next month, while the design of the Paddock building is also being finalised.

Till about the time of European GP, it was more less impossible to find a negative article about Lewis Hamilton, unless you were reading some materials by hardcore McLaren haters. Then the big slide and crane controversy came, and not everybody was happy. Still, no media as far as I am aware went openly agianst Hamilton. This changed after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Once it became obvious that Alonso was not the only culprit in the qualifying debacle, Hamilton’s honeymoon with media was over. They are starting to bite hard. The article in Daily Mail is probably the sign of the things to come, the tough life of the celebrity begins for Lewis Hamilton… Kimi can relax for a while, the vultures have a new target.

How do the current McLaren drivers compare with the guy, who won the last title for the team?
Hamilton and Alonso were no match for Mika Hakkinen in sauna, all of us could see that in the “Everything you you do I can do better” video …
Next the ability to drive in all conditions. Remember European GP and what trouble few drops of rain caused to Hamilton … Now look at Mika Hakkinen driving on the snow:
These new guys have still a lot to learn ![]()
