Formula 1 - Super Aguri, Spyker and Prodrive

News about the future of several F1 teams emerged during past 24 hours.
The financial trouble at Spyker Cars NV pushed the company into considering to sell part or the whole of the Spyker F1 team. These are statements from Spyker.
Spyker Cars NV might sell some or all of its Formula One team as part of a refinancing plan and strategic review.
Of the various refinancing scenarios being considered, the (partial) sale of the Spyker Formula One Team is one possibility.
They are now looking into several offers for part or whole of the team, they only bought in September last year. One of the possible buyers is Michiel Mol, current director of the Spyker F1 team. This would (and probably will) be the 3rd sale of the former Jordan team since 2005. Let’s hope they find some solution to their financial woes, otherwise we may have the repeat of Arrows situation in 2002…

The problems with payments from the main sponsor SS United are causing headaches at Super Aguri. The team is now looking for a buyer of minority stake to secure their future in F1. The hot candidate appears to be Alejandro Agag, the owner of the Campos Grand Prix GP2 team. Agag and Suzuki met during the Hungarian GP for some discussions.
“The team have not been sold but we are talking,” said Suzuki. “He (Agag) is one of the few people that we are currently talking to. We met in Budapest for the first time after being introduced by Adrian Campos.”
The situation of Super Aguri may not be as dire as over at Spyker. They owe most of the money to Honda and I believe Honda would be willing to give Super Aguri some time to sort out their financial troubles. Who may be in trouble though is Anthony Davidson. One of the possible short term fixes may be a pay driver. With Sato pretty much untouchable the only seat on offer would be Davidson’s. On the other hand if Agag gets a share of the team, he may want to promote one his GP2 drivers (Pantano, Petrov) to F1. Testing them in few 2007 F1 races after the 2007 GP2 season is over would make sense. Let’s see how this story develops…
There is also finally some news on Prodrive’s 2008 entry. The talks on cars, drivers, sponsorship are allegedly ongoing and progressing well, but behind the scenes. The arrangements will only be made public when all is finalized and ready. How reliable this information is, that is difficult to tell. The information was obtained by autosport.com from “a source” …
