While trying to find any video of the European GP Qualifying, this one came up after typing keyword “Hamilton”. This is simply hilarious. The Alonso/Hamilton rivalry confirmed

Kimi Raikkonen has his 2nd pole position of the season, ahead of Alonso and Massa. The story of the session however was the front right wheel failure and resulting heavy crash of Lewis Hamilton (video).

It looks like Kimi is the man to beat this weekend. After a bit slower 2nd Friday practice the BMWs are back on the pace. Renaults have a mountain to climb unless they have been hiding their true pace so far this weekend.

Hamilton came on top but the first session is quite clear indication that BMW is serious about joining the big guys, especially at their home Grand Prix. There was not much between McLaren, Ferrari and BMW in this free practice. The gaps between the team mates may be down to different fuel loads and set ups for the practice.

There are some interesting movements of the technical staff as well. Cases of Nigel Stepney (fired by Ferrari) and Mike Coughlan (suspended by McLaren) are well publicized in connection with the spy saga. The other movements are less dramatic and they all involve Honda.

Around this time last year I travelled to Germany for the German GP. As we do not have neither Hockenheim nor German GP this year here are some of my photos from Hockenheim 2006. Screensaver and some of the photos are available for download and the Downloads section of this blog.

Two weeks after British GP comes the German race. Nurburgring and Hockenheim are alternating the race from this year. Hockenheim has the naming rights for German GP, so this year race in Germany is staged as European GP.

The best way to get the complete preview of the race is to watch this video from Christine from Sidepodcast.tv, it does not get better than that …
