Formula 1 - Recent Team Personnel Changes Summary
These are interesting times on the F1 job market … Christijan Albers was dropped by Spyker last week with Markus Winkelhock emerging to be the strongest candidate for the race seat, well at least for the Nurburgring race. There are some interesting movements of the technical staff as well. Cases of Nigel Stepney (fired by Ferrari) and Mike Coughlan (suspended by McLaren) are well publicized in connection with the spy saga. The other movements are less dramatic and they all involve Honda.
They seem to be very serious about finally building proper car:A week ago Jörg Zander (previously Chief Designer at BMW Sauber) returned back to Honda (worked there as chief engineer for Mechanical and Transmission from 2002 to 2005), now as deputy technical director, supporting senior technical director Shuhei Nakamoto (who does not seem to have a clue…).
At Honda, Zander will reunite with Loïc Bigois (Chief Aerodynamicist Williams) who has also recently joined Honda (Head of Aerodynamics).
Geoff Willis (Technical Director at BAR and Honda between 2002 – 2006, gardener from 2006 till now) joined Red Bull Racing as a Technical Director (reporting to Adrian Newey). As a result Mark Smith moves to another position in Red Bull.
Gil de Ferran (Sporting Director at Honda since 2005) decided to quit the team to pursue career somewhere else.
