Formula 1 - Pironi And Villeneuve
F1 Fanatic has interesting new insight into the infamous 1982 San Marino Grand Prix. To sum up - Gilles Villeneuve was leading the race ahead of Didier Pironi. Pironi ignored the team orders and stole the win from unsuspecting Villeneuve. Well, there are many of us who are too young to remember that race, so this video may help to refresh the memory.
What followed after has been discussed a lot.
Villeneuve clearly shown his anger at podium. His anger and desire to keep Pironi behind probably contributed to his fatal crash in Zolder just 2 weeks later …As both these drivers have died already (Pironi in 1987 in power boat accident) all we can do now is speculate what really has happened in 1982. But the video of the race, and the lap times shown in the F1Fanatic article are convicning enough for me. I would not want to have a person like Pironi as my team mate …
