Formula 1 - European GP - Qualifying

Kimi Raikkonen has his 2nd pole position of the season, ahead of Alonso and Massa. The story of the session however was the front right wheel failure and resulting heavy crash of Lewis Hamilton (video).
The session was red flagged for quite some time. Hamilton was stretched away in the ambulance. It was not very clear in what condition Hamilton was. But Ron Dennis confirmed that “Lewis is fine. There are no injuries or broken bones but he will be kept for a couple of hours observation just as a precaution. We had a gun failure - the right hand wheel was not on tight. But it was not a car failure thankfully, it was the gun’s fault. It is far too early to say whether he can race tomorrow. Thankfully he did not lose consciousness. We’ll make a decision about whether he can race after a couple of hours observation.”
On the track, BMWs booked their usual places on the grid behind Alonso and Ferraris. Renault found some pace after not so convincing practice sessions with Kovalainen qualifying in 7th. Mark Webber clocked 6th fastest time. Both Toyotas made it to top 10.
