There is not much between McLarens and Ferraris. Hamilton was the fastest in the last sector and that is the difference between him and Alonso and Kimi. Massa slightly behind. Who knows what kind of games were these four playing. We will see soon in qualifying. Sato was 5th fastest and that kind of performance is still a bit unexpected from Super Aguri car. Nico Rosberg keeps displaying good form. Red Bulls also did not do too bad. There must be some sparks of optimism in Honda garage with solid performance from Rubens Barrichello and Button only about a tenth slower. BMW on the other hand have some job on their hands before qualifying session.

It looks like after Monaco, the Montreal track suits McLaren too. Alonso clocked fastest time in both practice sessions. In the first one followed by Hamilton, in the second one followed by Massa. The gap between him in Massa however is probably not as big as the half a second on the time sheet, as Massa locked his front wheel on his fastest lap loosing few tenths. It looks very much open among the top 4. BMW and Williams showed some good form with Heidfeld and Rosberg. Also Barrichello must be happy with 7th fastest time in the 2nd session.
It is interesting to see some team mates being separated by quite a lot of places - Barrichello and Button, Heidfeld and Kubica, Rosberg and Wurz. But … less than a second separates 6th from 18th. Q1 and Q2 will be interesting.

He does not race in F1 any more, but he is around. When he takes a break from attacking F1 drivers, he sings. You can listen to his music here: Jacques’ Space

After 2 weeks break we are headed for another race weekend. Montreal track is a mixture of a street circuit and permanent road course pretty much in the city. It is a low downforce track with several chicanes and slow corners with several overtaking opportunities. Moreover the walls and barriers are never too far away. This is the right mix for exciting race.

We should not forget the famous Wall Of Champions, that became known as such after 1998 race when 3 world champs ended up on it (Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher).

Ferrari won here 6 times in last 10 years (all wins by Michael Schumacher), but also recorded 5 second places and 4 third places. However their last win came in 2004.

Without any doubt, Ralf Schumacher’s season is not good at all so far. He scored a single point but his team mate scored 4 already in pretty much the same car. While Trulli does qualify or races near the point scoring places most of the time, Ralf fights it at the back with Spykers. … So where did it all go wrong for Ralf? Or was it ever good? For sure it was before he joined F1. He finished 2nd in German Formula 3 Championship in 1995 and went on to win the Macau GP Formula 3 street race the same year. At that race he beat Pedro de la Rosa and Jarno Trulli. In 1996 he moved to Formula Nippon and won it, making his way to F1. Pretty impressive resume that deservedly brought him F1 drive.
The best way to see his F1 performances is to compare his with those of his team mates.
