Lewis Hamilton on pole again. Alonso was fastest at every free practice this weekend, but come qualifying Hamilton got better of him. Ferraris will line up on the second row. Massa again qualified ahead of Kimi. Heidfeld finished only a tenth behind Kimi he looks like serious contender for podium tomorrow. Vettel will start his first race from P7, well done. This was a good session for Kovalainen, Trulli and Webber. Two of the Montreal stars will be disapointed - Sato and Wurz did not make it to Q2 and will line up on row 9.

Alonso still sits on the top of the timesheets. Sebastian Vettel did not need too much time to get used to F1 car again and learn the track. Only 0.171s behind Alonso, impressive. Hamilton also doing pretty well. Ferraris were a bit off the pace, and clocked very similar times with both Renaults and Nick Heidfeld’s BMW.

McLaren looks to be fast again and Lewis Hamilton does not seem to have too much trouble with learning the track. Ferraris are slowly getting there with their ar set up and seem to be close behind McLarens. But still, behind McLarens. Williams, BMW, Red Bull, Renault and even Honda are all there right behind the top 2 teams. Things as usual may be totally different on Saturday, so better do not make too much out of these free practice times.

Robert Kubica feels well and ready race again after his horrific crash in Montreal. But the opinion of FIA doctors is different and he will not be allowed to race this weekend. As much as I feel sorry for Kubica I think that FIA made very sensible decision for the sake of safety of all drivers and perhaps also for Kubica’s racing future. This may be just a “better safe than sorry” kind of decision but that is what is right in this kind of situation. Let’s hope young Sebastian Vettel can handle the Indy track, banked corner and the walls …<

Rumours about Indian GP have been circulating for months or years. It’s been for so long that one looses track of it. The places changed, venues changed. It looked recently that all settled on street race in New Delhi. According to the news that broke out yesterday, New Delhi it is, or will it be ? There has been a change of mind (if there ever was any mind) and now we are talking about new purposedly built track, not a street circuit. So Mr. Tilke will have to make another trip and make a new survey. This track will likely be built somewhere outside of the city. Some roads or streets or trains would be nice if fans are to get to the new track. And all of this we are made to believe will be ready by 2009.
Don’t take me wrong, I think that to bring the race to India is great idea. Formula 1 has huge following there, can’t even compare it with China. Just check the ESPNSTAR website and their Fantasy League and see where most of the fans come from. But will they be able to build the track and all the necessary infrastructure on time for 2009 season? I have my doubts but I wish they pull it off.

We did not have enough time to discuss and review properly all that happened on Sunday in Montreal and here comes United States GP in Indianapolis.

It seems like this race was in the calendar for quite some time. Formula 1 has quite some history in the US.

And we had an exciting race. I was not alone predicting several safety car deployments and that is what happened. What a shame that the safety car periods lead to penalties and black flags. But that is topic for separate post.
Lewis Hamilton finally made it to the top of the podium. And that means the end of the discussions about him leading the championship without winning the race.

Lewis Hamilton will start from P1, alongside Alonso. Job well done by McLaren. BMW managed to turn things around after the final practice and got the car between McLarens and Ferraris. P3 for Heidfeld, P8 for Kubica. Ferraris will be disapointed with P4 and P5. Webber and Rosberg did well to get P6 and P7. Fisichella finished 9th and Trulli 10th, again comfortably outqualifying his team mate Ralf Schumacher… There will be disapointment in Honda and Super Aguri after promising free practice results. Spykers will be starting from their familiar P21 and P22.Tomorrow should bring some fun and lots of tyre marks on the walls !
