McLarens, especially Hamilton, showed fastest pace in the practice 1. However the difference between 2nd Alonso and 3rd Raikkonen was only 1 tenth. It was about the same gap as between 5th Massa and 6th Davidson. Somehow I believe that the preformance difference between Super Aguri and Ferrari is a bit bigger than that …
Kubica and both Toyotas had pretty strong session. This is still only first practice but there may finally be some reason for smiles at Honda with Button making it to top 10. Looks like Honda may be able to join in the strong midfield pack and break away from the backmarkers.Spykers seem to have closed up the gap on Toro Rossos.
McLaren again displayed good pace with Alonso on P1. There was surprisingly strong performance from both Renaults. Hamilton got sandwiched between Massa and Raikkonen. Another surprise is 10th spot for Speed. That is significant improvement from Practice 1. Both Spykers are closing the order, Sutil again faster than Albers.
The results are quite different from Practice 1, different fuel loads probably playing major role. I would not be surprised if Renault ran on fumes to manage so quick lap times at the end of the session. On the other hand Ferrari may be hiding their pace, same as Kimi did in Melbourne. Will see what Saturday brings.
