Formula 1 - Malaysian GP - Saturday Free Pracitise and Qualifying

Saturday started very hot right from the morning. Hamilton came on top of timesheets and his car looked very nicely balanced. Massa’s time was not much slower. Kimi seemed to be taking it easy to preserve the engine probably. Still he came in 5th. Both BMWs had good runs with Kubica 4th. Williams continues to impress with very strong performance from Rosberg. Super Aguri showed some spark and Davidson clocked 8th fastest time. Hondas were struggling again, especially Rubens. I am beginning to feel sorry for these guys. This session was tough for Renaults as well with both cars deep down the order.
Saturday Free Practice Times here:
Before the qualifying it looked like it is just matter of time for the rain to come. Q1 eliminated Speed, Davidson, Barrichello, Wurz, and both Spykers. Things are going from bad to worse for Honda, Barrichello had to switch to the spare car … In Q2 all drivers posted their lap times and then some funny waiting game begun, all of them probably waiting for the clouds to make up their mind. The top drivers did not come out again, the rest fought for the few remaining places in top 10. At the end both Renaults, Coulthard, Sato, Button and Liuzzi were eliminated. Q3 started with 2 impatient McLarens in the front followed by the rest. Massa took his time and came out of the pits quite a bit later. There were few moments at the Turn 1 with some drivers not looking in their mirrors carefully. The main shootout begun about 2 minutes from time. Raikkonen posting fastest sector times, followed by Alonso who kept improving them. But at the end P1 went to Massa. So the top 4 places are shared by Ferraris and McLarens. Williams impressed again with Rosberg 6th. Both Toyotas qualified well. And then the rain came, well, just some drizzle …
It is looking interesting for the race tomorrow. The grid is interestingly mixed up in the middle, and if it rains tomorrow, it will be fun :-). My bet is on Massa …
