Formula 1 – Malaysian GP – Friday Free Practice

The promised thunderstorms and rain are nowhere to be seen. Sky is blue and it is hot hot hot.

First practice was totally dominated by Ferraris and McLarens. Williams and Red Bull were surprisingly fast. However Super Aguris did not repeat anything of their performance 3 weeks ago in Melbourne. Spykers and getting used to be the slowest cars. Their main competitor for the last spot seems to be Honda. It was really painful watching both Hondas struggling for balance.

First practice results here.

Second practice mixed up the time sheets. The temperatures got hotter, there was more rubber on the tarmac so conditions were quite different from morning. Renaults must be very happy with their form this afternoon. McLarens though dropped down quite a bit and it was quite visible that their car balance was worse than in the morning. Williams cars were pretty impresive, both of them. Hondas oh man, that is one sorry car right now. All they can hope for is some sort of miracle, like the one Toyotas pulled off in Australia. There was a nice Spyker tyre explosion and just before turn 1 and a bit of fire on a Red Bull.

Second practice results here.

So, it looks like Ferraris are staying on the top, Renaults are getting closer, McLarens have some work to do, but they should be up there as well. Spyker may have competition from Honda for the P22 … Watch out for Williams !

By the way – The white grooves are clearly visible, even from the spectators stands on the track.

Picture gallery will be online later, after I get back from Malaysia.
