Formula 1 – Last Week in F1 (March 20, 2007)

Yes ! The season has began !

Super Aguri finally launched their SA07 on Wednesday. They seem to be the only ones believing that it is not Honda’s RA106. And they got themselves new sponsor.

Spyker brought on board 2 sponsors from UAE with Etihad Airways becoming their title sponsor.

Bernie stopped over in Singapore on his way down to Oz to discuss F1 race in the Lion City next year. Apparently now all depends only on Singapore’s Mr. Ong, himself being a hotel tycoon. Significant delegation from Singapore was present in Melbourne not to sign the deal despite all the rumours but to see how the race is done.

Melbourne started to contemplate night race as well. It is really interesting to see F1 trying to send out the green message and at the same time being ready to use up massive amount of kilowatts to light up the track for the drivers.

Then we finally had the Friday Free Practice 1, Free Practice 2 with Ferrari sending out strong message. After Saturday Free Practice 3 the power of the Iceman in the Ferrari was finally openly revealed. At the same Super Aguri SA07 (nee Honda RA106) mixed up the time sheets.

Qualifying Session brought some surprises. It also brought protest from Spyker against Super Aguri’s car. After race stewards sent them to hell the legal action and arbitration is on the cards.

Sunday finally the lights went off, some drivers as well, some of them more than once (oh Heikki). And for some the race was all crap. Kimi won, he is happier in Ferrari than he was in McLaren, but still, Ferrari will not favour him. Alonso started his McLaren career well and Hamilton impressed all.

Results are here.

Chamionship standings are here.
